Volunteering in the community is a valuable experience that will not only strengthen your interpersonal skills but also provide you with beneficial tools that can help you succeed in the future.
There are numerous ways to get involved in your community and provide service as a way of giving back. On a larger scale, food pantries, churches, and shelters in the area are always looking for help. However, in our school itself, there are a good deal of opportunities to gain crucial service experience as well. Food/personal item drives are held yearly to give back to those in need, sponsored by numerous clubs and organizations. Tutoring programs and school-sponsored event volunteering are also available to high school students looking for service opportunities.
There are various valid reasons to participate in community service. Not only will it benefit those around you, but it will also contribute to your well-being, without you even realizing it.
Community service is instrumental in developing social skills. Volunteering allows you to refine and practice your social skills since you are most likely meeting regularly with individuals who share common interests. Strengthening your ties in the community and broadening your social network is important for your mental health as well because it creates a sense of belonging in your community.
Volunteering can help improve your mental health as well. Helping the community provides a natural feeling of accomplishment, increasing your overall satisfaction and most importantly increasing your self-confidence. Beyond high school, self-confidence is a key tool to help you forge through your future career goals. Career-wise, volunteering can also provide you with experience in different fields and atmospheres that can help you decide on a career path. Gaining experience in new fields without long-term commitment is a great way to figure out what you may want to do after high school.
In addition, volunteer work does look outstanding on college applications or job applications. It demonstrates a passionate commitment to helping others and your community, which is a superior quality to have on your resume.
Volunteering provides a healthy confidence boost that will impact your daily life in many positive aspects. Our school has numerous programs and opportunities, so getting involved is surely easy.
