Are you interested in public relations? Debating foreign politics? Enhancing your public speaking skills? Join Clarence High School Model UN today!
Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and its bodies. Students have the opportunity to debate similarly to how UN delegates would. Students choose a country to represent and debate other delegates of different countries based on the topic given, using information gathered on their individual countries specific political stance, historical background and economic situation. Model UN assemblies debate topics such as global health, nuclear proliferation, climate change, and global commerce.
Historically, the UN was founded in 1945 after World War 2, as an international and diplomatic peacekeeping organization to prevent future wars from occurring. Major initiatives of the UN today include humanitarian aid, protecting human rights, and upholding international law. The United Nations is an influential organization because delegates from around the world work to maintain international peace and security.
Participating in Model UN enhances your critical thinking skills, public speaking ability, and teaches us about real-world issues. Students get firsthand experience with international relations by replicating diplomatic scenarios. These skills could be advantageous for your future, so you won’t regret anything if you join.
We meet monthly in room 219. Contact our club advisor Mr. Ratka with any questions.
