Did you know that 0.999 repeating is exactly equal to 1? Don’t believe me? According to the proof below, it’s true! This is just one example of the many topics covered at the Clarence Math Club!
Every week, students meet in Ms. Crotty’s room to talk about an interesting math topic and complete fun activities related to that topic. The club is an opportunity for students to learn about some fun aspects of the class that many kids dread. Whether you love or hate math, there’s something for everyone.
“Each topic has a comical spin and we all have a sense of humor. It’s not as intimidating as people think it would be,” says Adriana Colafranceschi, a senior officer of the math club.
Students can take turns presenting topics that they find interesting at each meeting. Some include infinities, fractals, and hexaflexagons.
“My favorite topic so far was when Ms. Crotty taught us about 0.9999 and 1. It’s just crazy,” says Max Mertzlufft, a second-year member. No matter what the topic, there’s always something to make you think.
Math club meets on Friday mornings at 8:15 in Room 447. All are welcome!
