What is Unified PE at CHS?
Unified Physical Education is a course that is being offered next year at Clarence High School. Co-taught by Mr. Barrett and Mrs. Brawn, it is a chance for gen-ed students and special-ed students to interact through gym class. The class will be made up of twenty gen-ed students, and ten special-ed students, and it will be run both first and second semester in order to give all kids who want to take the class a chance.
Why are we starting this program?
Unified PE allows students with all different levels and backgrounds of sports and fitness to come together. It provides good social interaction for both gen-ed and special-ed students, and it allows students to apply their leadership skills. It also gives the chance to expand the Special Olympics program.
What is the impact of Unified PE?
This course opens a gateway for students to learn so many new things. It teaches empathy, adaptability, cooperation, and many more skills that are applicable to everyday life. Also, it gives chances for new friendships to be formed, and leave lasting impacts.
Unified Physical Education is an overall great way for everyone to be involved and included. It teaches skills, allows for an easy setting of gen-ed students and special-ed students to interact, and it engages everyone in some physical activity. Everyone is super excited for this program to start.
