In the course, I have learned how to be a more communicative and open-minded teammate. Before participating in Grade 10 Drama, I had a difficult time working in group projects because I was very stubborn and wanted to do things my way instead of listening to my group mates’ opinions, and I always did most of the work because I did not communicate effectively with my group mates about sharing the workload. In the course, I was able to do a lot more group work with people I haven’t worked with much before in a variety of projects (e.g. vocal masques, tableaus, class performances). In the beginning, I repeated some of my bad habits, but as the semester progresses, I became much more open-minded and patient when working or discussing with my group mates, and I was more respectful of their opinions and suggestions.
The Grade 10 Drama course was a very eye-opening experience for me, and I am glad to have participated in the course in Semester 1. Through this course, I was able to express myself more confidently through the use of body language and speech, as well as being able to try new mediums like vocal masques and monologues. I became a lot more confident when performing in front of audiences, thanks to the class performances; I was able to learn how to project my voice a lot better (especially in an environment that suppresses volume with other sounds, i.e. the air conditioning), and how effective on-stage blocking should be like to deliver a good performance. In summary, I enjoyed my learning experience in the Grade 10 Drama course as it has helped me improve my communication skills and explore the mediums of dramatic arts.
