Carlo Santini was born in Sondrio, Italy, in 1968, and now works and lives in Rome. He attended High School and University in Rome, where he graduated in Electronic Engineering in 1996 with a specialization in Electromagnetism in “La Sapienza” University. He published the results of his final dissertation on Electromagnetic Wave Scattering for Thermonuclear Plasma Heating in three articles on IEEE Transaction of Plasma Science and the Journal for Electromagnetic Waves and Applications. In years 1997-1998 he specialized in Telecommunications, attending courses in the Italian Ministry of Communication and Telecom Italia. He joined Telecom Italia in years 1997-2001 in the Planning and Control Office of the Network Department, working on Network services Business Plans, Network Strategic Planning and Competitors’ Network analysis. He Specialized in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science Teaching in 2002. From 2001 to 2011 he worked as Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science teacher in “Renzo Levi” High School of Rome, where he was appointed World ORT Scientific and Technologic Project Coordinator from 2006 to 2011. In 2011 he has been employed by Italian Ministry of Education as teacher of Mathematics and Physics in Public High Schools. He is currently attending first year of PhD Course in Electromagnetism in “La Sapienza” University of Rome.

In 2005 he graduated in Telecommunications Engineering at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome, in 2011 he obtained a master’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, in 2013 he obtained the qualification to practice the profession of Engineer for the field of information and is a member of the Order of Engineers of the Province of Rome; since 2014 is a Phd candidate at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications , "La Sapienza" University of Rome and is currently involved in a study and is currently involved in a study on 2D and 3D software simulation problems of subsurface radar scattering in typical civil and environmental engineering contexts. In 2012 he worked on mobile radio planning and optimisation of mobile radio systems in particular analysis of data from gsm and umts technologies. Since January 2013 is involved in software programming projects and monitoring platform on Zigbee standard and contributes to the research and implementation of new wireless solutions especially in home automation and personal heltcare contexts.

Maria Denise Astorino was born in Crotone on February 6 in 1990. She obtained the Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering in 2012 with a thesis on “Electromagnetic metasurfaces for antennas with advanced performances” and the Master degree in Electronic Engineering in 2015 cum laude with a thesis on “Metamaterial absorbers: Design and analysis for the GHz and THz regime” from the University of Rome "La Sapienza". She is currently enrolled in the PhD Course in Electromagnetism at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Her research project involves the study of metamaterial absorbers through methodologies for the development of equivalent circuit models, homogenization techniques for anisotropic media and analysis of metamaterials in the cloaking effect.

Lorenzo Dinia was born in Fondi in 1984. Always striving for the best, he graduated with a 4.0 GPA earning a master of science in Biomedical Engineering in Rome and in 2014 he earned a second master of science in Industrial Engineering at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering. He has three years of experience as a Maintenance Manager for medical devices in two major hospitals in Rome. He was responsible for a team of technicians that he coordinated for corrective actions, preventive actions, and quality controls. He also coordinated administrative employees for maintaining accurate service records, spare parts inventories and the inventory of all medical devices. He is an expert in CAPA, GMP, electrical safety check, six sigma methodologies, quality systems, process improvements and safety. During his studies in USA he had an experience at the Oncological Department at Mount Sinai Hospital on developing a prototype of automatic system for high-precision liquid dispensing. Subsequently he thoroughly studied sequence analysis, to broaden the knowledge in genetic. After his second master of science he worked as Process Technical Engineer in a manufacturing company in Brooklyn and since November 05th he is working as Field Service Engineer in a packaging company in New Jersey. In November 2015 he started a PhD at the Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications on “Surface Plasmon Resonance Sensors for Detection of Chemical and Biological Species”.

Laura Rivaroli was born in 1984. In 2009 he graduated from the Higher Education School of the Higher Institute for Conservation and Restoration (ISCR); in 2008 he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Artistic History Studies at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", in 2006 he obtained the diploma of Corso I.F.T.S: “Technician for the restoration of Archaeological and Architectural Heritage”. Since 2009 freelancer and owner of the individual company Rivaroli Laura. Important works carried out under the direction of the I.S.C.R., Museo dell'Opera del Duomo di Assisi, Museo dei Fori Imperiali: The markets of Trajan, Museum of the Opera del Duomo of Orvieto, University of Rome "Sapienza" mission Lavinium and Pyrgi, Freie University of Berlin. Enrico Lia was born in Araraquara (Brazil) in 1970. He received the Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from the Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicaçoes (INATEL), in 2001 and followed part of his post-graduation studies in microwave at the Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronautica (ITA) in 2003. Since 2010, he is working as microwave engineer at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESA/ESTEC) in Noordwijk, The Netherlands and currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Electromagnetism at the Sapienza Università di Roma, Italy. His research projects and interests include the study of ultra high-Q factor resonators based on photonic crystals for oscillator application in the millimetre-wave band and metamaterial structures with absorbing properties in the electromagnetic spectrum.

Badrul Alam was born in Bangladesh. He received his Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering in 2010 at “Sapienza, University of Rome”, with the thesis “Numerical Design of a Linear Accelerator at X-Band through CST”. At the same University, he also received his Master degree in Electrical Engineering in 2013 with the thesis “Generation of RF tones Optical Labels for low latency Optical Packet Switch node”, done in a six-months-long collaboration with TU/e (Technical University of Eindhoven), in the Netherlands. From 2014, he is employed in a PhD course in Electromagnetism at the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Between february and july 2015 he has been Teaching Assistant of “Physics I” for the courses of Electrical, Computer, Automation and Management Engineering. He is currently employed at DIET (Department of Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications) and is interested in Plasmonics, Optical Integrated Circuits, Sensors and Metasurfaces: both design and fabrication.

Maurizio Troiano was born in Rieti, he studied primary and secondary school at the same city, where he graduated from the technical industrial institute "Clestino Rosatelli". After graduating from high school he enrolled in the faculty of Electronic Engineering at the University of Rome La Sapienza. During his university studies he works as a maintenance technician, installation of scientific laboratory instruments. He graduated in 2017 with a thesis entitled "Discrete wavelet transform and neural networks for the diagnosis of a hepatocarcinoma" and the thesis work was carried out in collaboration with the research laboratory "multifunctional diseases and complex phenotypes" of the pediatric hospital Bambin Gesù in Rome. He is currently following the Phd course in Electromagnetism at the DIET department of the University of Rome la Sapienza.

Sidra Batool was born in Kashmir, Pakistan, in 1991. She received the M.Sc. and M.Phil. degrees in electronics from the Department of Electronics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan, in 2013 and 2017, respectively. Alessandro Calcaterra was born in Rome, Italy, on January 21st in 1993. He received the Bachelor and the Master degree in Electronic Engineering with full marks and honors, both from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 2014 and 2017 respectively. During his academic path he attended two different advanced courses, in which he could deeply improve his knowledge in electromagnetic theory, in the materials' characterization at microwave frequencies and in the leaky-wave antennas. In particular, the latter represents his main topic of interest that he could enhance by attending the ESOA course on "Leaky-waves and periodic structures for antenna applications" in 2017. At the moment, he is studying the deep penetration phenomenon and how to achieve it using inhomogeneous waves such as leaky ones.
