One day when there was a heatwave, boys took their shirts off and girls were just in sports bras. The girls got yelled at by the Athletic Director. The boys were told to put their shirts back on but the girls were immediately asked to leave practice. One of the girls named Kayla said “The dress code never said that we cannot wear sports bras and Olympians wear this same uniform. Some of the girls had worn sports bras to practice before and the coaches never had a problem with what the girls wore." The girls later got a 3-day suspension because the Athletic Director thought they were being aggressive and arguing with her. The only reason it was lifted was because the Board of Education did not like how the Athletic Director gave the girls a 3-day suspension. When the girls showed up to a lacrosse game and tried to sit down three security guards came and told them they couldn't attend the game. The Athletic Director said that their little protest was not going to work. Kayla responded that it was not a protest, they just wanted to watch the game. The Athletic Director went too far.
Did you know that all of these things are banned for kids to wear in some schools?
Some schools think of clothes that show shoulders or too much skin as too distracting or "immodest" but really, it isn't for most students.
Even though they are ripped with intention, some schools still believe that they aren't appropriate in school.
Some schools think that short shorts or skirts are inappropriate unless they're not too short because schools think they're distracting to others.
