Shave The Peak
Reducing non-essential electricity usage can help the grid avoid bringing the most expensive, dirtiest power plants online. Safety and staying cool comes first, of course, but between 3 and 8 PM:
Turn the AC up a few degrees--or off if it's safe to do so.
Wait till after the peak to do laundry or run the dishwasher.
Turn off or unplug appliances you aren't using.
Charge your electric car at night (if you have one).
