I tried to apply the learning model that I used in Indonesia at Udonpit. I used discovery learning as the learning model and then try to connect/correlate it with the 5E learning cycle which is usually applied in Thailand. The topic I used in this teaching practice is solution concentration. There were 3 main activities in this teaching practice: opening (15 minutes), core activity (60 minutes), and closing (5 minutes).
Opening Activities:
Greet students.
Apperception (Engagement) : recalling prerequisite topic by asking questions.
Motivation (Engagement) : delivering learning objectives.
Core activities:
Stimulation (Engage) : Stimulate students to the topic.
Problem Statement (Predict) : Students state the problem and predict the hypothesis.
Data collection (Explore) : Students do the experiment.
Data Processing (Explore) : Students answer post-activities questions.
Verification (Explanation) : Students present and explain their result. Student teacher verify the result.
Generalization : Student teacher explain and generalize today's topic.
Reflection (Evaluation) : Students answer questions related the topic's to evaluate their knowledge.
Closing activities:
Giving Assignment.
Greet the class.
In managing time, student teacher managed the duration of each step of the learning activity. Although in reality there were several obstacles in managing time for learning, so in some activities there was a delay or student teacher cut the time for next activity.
When organizing classes, student teachers did it in groups. Students were divided into groups with 3-5 members in one group to carry out practicum. Organizing students with ice breakers can also make students refocus on learning but student teacher didn't spend much time interacting with students so student teacher can't apply more in organizing the class. I wish I could have more time to teach class in Udonpit school ☹️.
There were several obstacles that I experienced while doing this program. Including when it was too difficult to find a place to print around campus (luckily at school there was a place to print my files), the teaching preparation was too short which makes me less satisfied when practice teaching (thankfully I have CT, ma'am Gym and lecturer evaluator ma'am Chanchira, who gives feedback and input to me so that I can learn a lot from them, and also my friend, Karen, who help and discuss a lot of things with me), the limited time available means that there was less interaction between me and the students.
I didn't have a my own vehicle while living in Udon Thani but fortunately there are lots of public transportation (such as Tuktuk, samlor, etc) that we can take in Udon Thani, thank God I also have friends from Indonesia (Azri, Rosita, and Anggita) who help me live abroad for the first time.
