The curriculum in the Philippines is called the K to 12 curriculum which means kindergarten to 12 years. In this curriculum, basic education in the Philippines is divided into 6 years of elementary school, 4 years of junior high school, and 2 years of high school.
At junior high school level, students learn all subjects from mathematics, social sciences, to science. After that, in high school they will choose specifications according to their respective majors.
in the guide to making lesson plans and learning objectives, all are arranged from the Philippine national curriculum center (such as the document in the picture) then after that the teacher will design appropriate learning so that learning objectives can be achieved.
Teaching plan are usually written in a lesson plan. There are several things that must be included in the lesson plan, such as content standard and performance standard (taken from the curriculum guide) followed by learning objectives which are things that must be achieved by students at the end of learning then continued with an assessment that will be used to measure students' understanding and achievement of the learning assessment itself.
Followed by material references and also learning procedures which are written in detail in the learning procedure section, things that will be done in sequence in class are explained in stages, starting from the opening such as giving apperception or asking about previous material followed by delivering the material to be studied on that day in the material delivery section, the steps are adjusted to the learning method that has been chosen which is considered appropriate for the material to be delivered then at the end it will be closed and given and there is also a section for assessment and also agreement things that will be agreed upon or things that students will be asked to do.
Procedure of Teaching
Teaching procedures carried out in the classroom based on the lesson plan that has been prepared previously.
I myself usually do the teaching procedure into several stages, the first is the opening stage. At this stage I will call the prayer leader in the class to pray together with other students. After that I will open the class by giving a greeting asking how they are and also reviewing the previous learning or using it to give appreciation to students.
The second part I will do a presentation with the media that I have prepared with the aim of giving students an overview of the material that will be studied in more detail and also in depth.
The third part will be an activity where students will be given various activities to measure their understanding of the material that has been explained previously.
Last but not least, closing section. In the closing section, I usually make or ask the student to make a conclusion, followed by an assessment or agreement what will be done at the next meeting then closed with a closing greeting and also a prayer together led by the prayer leader.
Every subject only has 55 minutes for each class, so time management in class becomes very important. My CT (cooperating teacher) usually divides the time in class into 3 large parts, the first is an explanation of the material, then the second is an activity for practice and the last is summary and also a conclusion in class. These 3 parts of time management, is very effective with a short learning time, so that students still have time to listen, understand and analyze, then implement it in practicing questions. At the end, they are also asked to provide a conclusion from the learning that has been done. Sometimes my teacher also uses the last time to provide an assessment or assessment to measure the extent to which students have understood the material that has been given that day. This kind of time management that I also implemented in my class.
Classroom activities are also very important to attract students' attention and also ensure their understanding of the material that has been given that day. I try my best to design all interesting activities by using various methods such as attractive and colorful power point media or making it into a quiz in the hope that classroom activities can be more meaningful for students.
I learn a lot from my CT (cooperating teacher) about how classroom management is implemented. She always pays attention to the entire class and pays attention to every child who is having difficulties. I try to apply this in classroom learning, where I try to make learning media as interesting as possible, as simple as possible, and also accessible to all students, so it can be seen from the front row of seats to the back row of seats. This classroom management helps me to deliver material more optimally.
The problem that I often find when I do practice teaching is that there are students who are sleepy and fall asleep in class. In overcoming this, I do several things. One of them is I invite them to chat about their day or about other things outside of chemistry material. This is intended so that students are willing and interested in focusing and presenting themselves mindfully in class. In addition, I also often invite them to actively participate, giving them the opportunity to come forward and answer questions in front of the class. Several times I called students who looked sleepy to answer questions so that they would be aware again and follow the learning. In addition, I also walked around the class to personally reprimand several children who were sleepy and ensure that the entire class followed the learning optimally. This also helped me to map the difficulties of students in learning in class.
