Participating in the SEA-Teacher program has been a transformative experience for me. Through this program, I learned how to plan and deliver lessons effectively, adapting my teaching methods to align with the local curriculum and cultural context. It also gave me the opportunity to understand and appreciate the rich culture of the host country, improving my sensitivity and communication skills in a cross-cultural setting.
I enhanced my English communication skills by using it as the primary language in teaching and interaction. Additionally, I gained valuable experience using advanced educational technologies, like smart TVs and digital tools, which made the teaching process more engaging.
This program also helped me grow personally and professionally. I became more confident in managing a classroom, improved my time management skills, and learned to overcome challenges in a new environment. I also built meaningful connections with local teachers, students, and fellow participants, creating a strong international network.
Lastly, experiencing a different educational system opened my eyes to new perspectives on teaching and learning, inspiring me to bring these insights into my future teaching practices. Overall, SEA-Teacher has prepared me to be a more competent, confident, and culturally aware educator.
The teaching practicum aims to give student teachers real, hands-on experience in the classroom. This experience is essential for building teaching skills and beginning to gather insights that will shape our professional expertise. Reading about teaching or watching others teach, which we’ve done for years, is not enough. To truly learn, student teachers must actively practice teaching. Practical knowledge and wisdom are personal and can’t simply be passed from one person to another. By combining teaching skills with knowledge and reflecting on the process, student teachers can gradually develop the practical wisdom needed for their future careers.

Participating in the SEA-Teacher Batch 10 program has been one of the most rewarding and unforgettable experiences in my academic journey. Teaching at Saint Louis University Junior High School provided me with the unique opportunity to not only enhance my teaching skills but also immerse myself in a rich and vibrant cultural environment.
Throughout this program, I learned so much beyond the classroom. I gained insights into the local culture, from their traditions and values to their everyday way of life. It was fascinating to observe how education is deeply intertwined with their cultural identity, shaping a learning environment that is both nurturing and dynamic. I also had the chance to learn some phrases in their local language, which helped me connect better with the students and create a warm, inclusive classroom atmosphere.
Academically, I was introduced to a new educational curriculum and teaching methodologies that expanded my perspective on effective learning approaches. Witnessing how the school integrates technology and collaborative learning into their system was truly inspiring and gave me fresh ideas for my own teaching practices.
Beyond the professional and cultural lessons, this program allowed me to form meaningful friendships with local teachers, fellow participants, and students. Sharing experiences, exchanging stories, and working together created bonds that I deeply cherish. These friendships not only made the journey more enjoyable but also taught me the value of collaboration and mutual respect across diverse backgrounds.
Looking back, I am incredibly grateful for this experience. It was challenging at times, but every obstacle became an opportunity to learn and grow. I enjoyed every moment, from preparing lessons to engaging with students and exploring a new culture. This program has not only shaped me into a more competent educator but also enriched my understanding of the world. I will carry these lessons, friendships, and memories with me as I continue to pursue my passion for teaching.
Suggestion
I hope SEAMEO continues to support and expand the SEA-Teacher program, as it offers invaluable opportunities for student teachers to gain hands-on teaching experience. It would be wonderful if they could also develop new initiatives to provide even more chances for aspiring educators to grow and learn in diverse educational settings. I sincerely wish that more student teachers in the future can participate in this program and enjoy the same incredible experience I had through SEA-Teacher.
