Overview
The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is committed to providing an inclusive learning environment that fosters student achievement and well-being for all students with the implementation of supports and programs to meet individual needs.
The Special Education Department, in collaboration with all West Humber Collegiate Institute (WHCI) staff, are responsible for providing equitable access to learning opportunities for all students, including students with special education needs, with the aim of dismantling systemic barriers to high-quality education for our vulnerable and underserved student population.
Individual Education Plan (IEP)
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) is a plan developed to describe the special education program and/or services for a particular student, highlighting the identified strengths and needs of the student along with accommodations, modifications, and alternative expectations.
The IEP provides a framework for communicating a student’s social and academic progress to parents/guardians/caregivers and the student. Teachers use classroom-based observations and assessments to assist in the development and progress monitoring of the IEP.
