A Library of Our Own (ALOOO)

Purpose: We are Library Leaders who aim to improve the experience of students in the Library through: 

• Meeting to discuss books, as part of an ongoing (monthly) reading group that chooses books from authors with under-represented voices

• Assisting with the design, decoration, and maintenance of student spaces in the Library, with an eye toward increasing representation of student identities and diversity of perspectives

• Helping to organize and maintain the books, graphic novels, manga, and other material to keep our Library looking and feeling fresh and welcoming

Purpose: Our goal is to provide a space where students can widen their understanding of history and its impact in a constructive and intellectual environment. The scholarly debates that will be held, focus on using historical facts and presenting arguments for alternative historical events and perspectives. We examine history and by using facts and information, we debate and converse on what may have happened if certain events progressed differently.

Asian Heritage Club

Purpose: The purpose of the club is to create and maintain a safe, inclusive community for not only Asian students but anyone who supports and wants to experience/learn about Asian culture. As Covid-19 has resurfaced a wave of Asian hate, I believe that it is important to stick together, spread awareness and remind the community of what makes Asian heritage wonderful, unique, and truly important. This club focuses on the positive with the hope of reducing stigmas and misconceptions.

Ethics Club

Purpose: Ethics Club runs weekly meetings where students can collaboratively discuss and debate moral issues. We enter teams into the Canadian Ethics Bowl, which is a competition that sparks collaborative and constructive dialogue on relevant global and personal ethical issues. The club is also responsible for running the In-House Northern Ethics Bowl which is very accessible to all students, and can get people interested in the club. These functions are extremely beneficial to students, and gives them an opportunity to practice critical thinking, ethical considerations, constructive dialogue, and public speaking.

Purpose: Northern’s Health Science Club strives to educate members about various fields and research areas in Biochemistry and the Health Sciences. We aim to offer resources to explore various healthcare professions through guest speakers and panel sessions. We have also merged with HOSA to offer competitive resources, training and information for the HOSA conference or any other Biology-related competition.

Purpose: The aim of this club is to provide a safe environment for Jewish students at Northern! JSU is a great place for people to connect, meet new people, and embrace your Jewish identity. JSU is open to everyone, regardless of religion, so if you're there for the pizza or your friends, you are welcomed either way!

Purpose: To host monthly fundraisers for different causes each month. Our club will be in association with an identical club at Riverdale Collegiate Institude, and we will pool our funds and participate in events together to strengthen our impact.

Purpose: The purpose of the Software Development Club is to encourage the practical use of programming languages through the creation of apps, websites, and video games. We hope to inspire each member to make something that solves a common problem or helps create a fun and enjoyable environment, presenting their work/progress to the other members for positive and constructive feedback. Furthermore, we want to help create a learning environment where members are able to discuss the latest trends and events in software. The overall goal of the club to bring collaboration and teamwork to the forefront of what we do, with this idea culminating in a large club wide project that everyone can contribute too. This project will be something that benefits the school community or helps to further promote our club as a fun and innovative space.

Purpose: Northern’s Yearbook Association is responsible for the creation and design of Northern’s Yearbook, as well as the photography and written documentation of school life, events, sports, clubs and associations.
