The Senate is a group of dedicated students ready to help the SAC Executive and fufilling the various positions below. They vote on bills created by the Executive and House of Representatives, the budget, and club charter. Senators are appointed by the Executive through an application and interview process each Fall. Grade 10-12 Senators are elected by the Student Body.

Grade Senators are responsible for communicating the concerns of the class reps of a grade to the senate. They are elected at the end of the school year during Election Week with the exception of the grade 9 senator, who is elected during the first class rep meeting.
The Speaker and Deputy Speakers are responsible for presiding over all House of Representative and Senate meetings. The Speaker ensures that proper procedures are followed at every level of the sudent government. If bills have been created, the Speaker is responsible for signing and providing a copy to the Secretary. The Deputy Speaker acts as an assistant to the Speaker and records all motions and results of votes. If the Speaker is absent, the Deputy Speaker should be ready to substitute for the meeting. The Speaker must be in grade 11 or 12, and the Deputy Speaker must be in grade 10.
The NSS Foundation Senator must have a vested interest in preserving the history of Northern Secondary School, as well as promoting its further development through the NSS Foundation. The NSS Foundation Senator attends all NSS Foundation meetings. The NSSF Senator must be in grade 12.
The School Council Senator represents the students of Northern in the School Council, and establish a liaison between the School Council and the Senate. The School Council Senator must attend all School Council meetings.
The Head of Communications is responsible for making and posting content for the Instagram account. They also respond to school-related inquiries on the Instagram account, and make updates to the SAC website as needed. The Head of Communications Senator should be available to aid the SAC Executive when necessary.
The TDSB Senators are responsible for representing Northern Secondary School students in the TDSB Senate and connect to the SAC Senate. They must attend Learning Centre Meetings for Learning Centre 1 and discuss their plans with the Vice-President within the first month of their election.
The Safe Schools Senator attends all meetings of the House of Representatives and responds to questions and concerns brought forward by class representatives. The Safe Schools Senator liaises between the House of Representatives and the Northern administration on matters concerning student safety, comfort, and infrastructure repair or additions. The Safe Schools Senator must attend each quarterly Safe Schools meeting. The Safe Schools Senator also regularly inspect restrooms and water fountains and raises concerns to the Northern administration.
The DHH Senator is responsible for advocating and representing the DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) community. If there are concerns or suggestions within the DHH community, the DHH Senator is expected to bring them up and see to their solution at the senate meetings.
The ESL/ELL Senator is responsible for advocating and representing the ESL and ELL (English Language Learning) communities. If there are concerns or suggestions within the ELL/ESL communities, the ESL/ELL Senator is expected to bring them up and see to their solution at the senate meetings.
