The Iberian Lynx, Lynx pardinus, are a small wild cat species that once thrived on the entire Iberian Peninsula and parts of France. They now only live protected in the Doñona National Park, Southern Spain. In 2002 they were listed as an endangered species on the IUCN Redlist. Still, only 400 of them are left in the wild today (“Bringing Back the Iberian Lynx”, n.d.). Iberian lynx reside in Mediterranean forests with dense ground cover and some open pastures. Their diet includes wild rabbits, ducks, young deer, and partridges if rabbit numbers are low (“The Big Cat”, n.d.). They have dark spots covering their fur, black tufts of fur pointing up on the top of their ears, and a distinct short tail with a black tip (“Iberian Lynx”, 2020).
