The "TH" sound is one of the latest developing sounds in the English. It is a sound that is somewhat rare in other languages. While it does exist in languages besides English (Greek, for example), the TH sound does not exist in the mainstream dialect of Spanish that is spoken in Mexico. Because of this, it is common for English Language Learners who speak Spanish (and many other languages) to say the TH sound incorrectly. This is considered a speech 'difference' between two languages rather than being considered a disorder and is not addressed in speech therapy within the school setting.
