Who exactly is Dieter rams?
In 1932, Dieter Rams was born in Wiesbaden, Germany. His grandpa was a carpenter, and his existence had a big impact on him. As Germany was being rebuilt in the early 1950s, Rams' early success in carpentry led to his registering in an architecture program.
What did he do and why is his work so significant/influential to today's technology?
Dieter Rams was also a German industrial designer who spent his time developing his skills in architect before joining a make of electronics, Braun. He soon after rose up to the post of chief design, which he maintained for over 35 years! Throughout his life/career he created a couple of famous products, including record players, SSDs(Solid state drive) and furniture. Dieter Rams' designs have proved to be timeless and his work has greatly influenced modern design as it is today.
What products was he involved in?
Dieter Rams' grandpa, a carpenter, was present and had a big impact on him. Rams once used the German expression "Weniger, aber besser" to describe his design philosophy. For Braun, Rams and his team created a number of iconic devices, such as the well-known SK-4 record player and the premium "D"-series (D45, D46) of 35mm film slide projectors. He is also renowned for creating a line of furniture for Vitsoe in the 1960s, which included the 620 chair program and the 606 universal storage system. In the 1950s, Rams established Braun as a household name by creating electrical devices that were notable for their spartan look and user friendliness. Rams, who succeeded the Bauhaus, finally rose through the ranks to become a student at Ulm School of Design in Ulm, Germany.
