Why?
We do foam modeling to see what our design would look like in person, without using too many expensive materials. Also so we can see what is needed to change.
How?
I get a couple pieces of hard foam, one for the base and a long one for the neck and another for the head, then I cut them into the shape that I want and put them together
This is the design that I am going to try and replicate, I am going to make a few adjustments to the overall design, by just making it look cleaner. I am not sure why I picked this design, I feel like it may have some potential after some changes.
This is the finished Base, I feel like it is nice and smooth, but I could have done better measurements and maybe I could be a bit straighter. ------------------>
I started off with a block of foam, I needed it quite thick so that I could sand it down into the shape that I want. I used a file to sand down the dents from the hot wire machine. I needed the base to be smooth.
I started off with a long piece of blue wood, because the neck has to be long, and relatively strong to support the head and the base.
Next I used the hot wire machine to cut out the shaoe that I wanted, I adjusted the shape from the design because I felt that I wanted something a little bit more simple and easier to do, so I went with the standard curve.
I decided to use double sided tape to stick on the neck to the base, I could have cut out a slot, but I was running short on time and did not think that I would finish getting it all together
Whilst I was trying to get the neck onto the base, I pushed a little bit too hard and ended up snapping part of the end off, so I used wood glue to stick it back together,
I used the Bandfacer machine to get a relatively smooth edge, but I think I could have done better.
