ASSESSMENT TASK 2

SKETCHING CREATIVITY CHALLENGE - 'PRE-PREP FUN POWER HANDTOOL FOR WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES'

Design a 'range' of play workshop powertools (drill, jigsaw, chainsaw, grinder, sander, blowtorch, gluegun etc.) for younger children to use in Pre-Prep. They do not work, although some parts could move, so young children use their imagination as though they do work. They should be playful and fun i.e. large buttons, soft shapes, lights?, characters? etc.

We would like you to present your work using your Website and on a new Subpage or new section. You should Research before your start designing which should give you inspiration. You could also look at using AI to gain ideas (Click the button below to see how).

You can submit your work in any format and use any tools and media to complete the challenge i.e. you could produce a page of 2D marker rendered sketches with a 3D rendered idea; Digital sketched ideas; 2 Point perspective ideas in 3D; some Onshape modelling and transfer to Procreate; some Onshape rendered ideas; foam modelled ideas. etc. You need to demonstrate your skills both in communication and in creativity.

I have a plan to mix a vacuum cleaner with a hammer shark because of the simelier head design with bright yellow or red colour to make it look interesting.

I also wanted to mix a hair dryer with an anteater because they both have tiny mouths and use the blue colour to make it look friendly for kids and attractive to them.

For my third design I decided to mix an ironing machine with a rhino because of the similar head design and most of my younger brothers like dangerous animals.

In the forth design I had combine a hacksaw with a dinosaur. This is because mostly young children like dinosaurs and the idea appeared in my head when I first saw it.

My first idea was about rhino combining with ironing machine. Additionally, I have added a rhino horn on the front its ears on the side and eyes next to it mouth. I also added a steam coming out of it tail. Overall I very like the design and the shape of it.

My second idea is about combining a hammer head shark with the vacuum cleaner. In this design I have added tail at the back and multiple fin around the boddy to make it look cool and the bottle where we keep the vacume to look like a shark tank.

This design is a combination of an anteater and a hair dryer. I have made the head of the hair dryer look like an anteater and have plans to make it out of rubber so it can be flexible. Moreover, I have added rainbow colour to make it look kid friendly and attractive toward children.

In my forth design I have combined a dinosaur and a hacksaw. Also adding a bright red and green colour to it. I have also made the holder look like the dinosaur fang to give a feeling of interest to the children. I have plans to make most of the parts out of fome. Thus it will save for children and most of the parts are spiked.

I wanted to mix a drill with a narwhal because I haven't found an animal that has a thin and pointy horn like this sea creature. Moreover, I really like the unique design of the design.

Secondly, I combine a double sided axe with an orangutan. This idea appears in my head when I randomly think about using the orangutan hand to hold the blades.

The next idea I combine a crab arm with a wrench. This is because of the similar shape and I think it would look fun and attractive to kids also adding a fun bright colour, for example orange, to the design.

In this design I have a mix and circular saw with a warm. This idea appears in my head when I start thinking that it would be interesting if I warmed up the handle.

This is the result of all the ideas I have created above. In addition, you can see that I make most of my design moveable which I think would be fun for children. My most favourite design is the crab arm mixed with a wrench. I really like how it looks, its colour and how it works. However, my least favourite design is the warm mixing with circular saw was way better when I first thought of it.

I chose the crab arm mixed with a wrench to make a manufacture a foam development model This is because the attractive design combines with the color of it making it look fun and interesting. Also personally I like this design the most and believe the children would like it too. Moreover, I really like the gimmick or the function of this design because I make a lot of its parts moveable.

Incase if I finish the first design early I will make this design after. I choose this design because it look appealing toward pre pred children and most children around this age group like dinosour.

I have finally started creating the product in real life using foam in this lessen I have finish drawing the crab arm mixing with wrench on the A-3 paper so it would be clearer about the size.

After finish cuting the paper that we have draw in the last lessen. I have plan to make the handle part of the crab arm curve but the top part flat so it can be move able. Next, I have started using the leaphe machine to make my foam to become cylinder shape. After finishing the handle part my plan is to make the middle part to become a cylinders shape also it was a grey foam which was more thicker and stronger so I will have to uses this tool which will make the foam more curve and smooth.

After finish cutting the paper that we have draw in the last lessen Ms Douglas use the cutting machine to cut the foam in to the size that I wanted. I make the handle part of the crab arm curve but the top part flat so it can be move able. Next, I have started using this machine to make the foam curve. However, I accidentally brake the foam into 2 part but hopefully it can stick it back together using glue.

I have finished making my wrenge moddle. The only thing left is to stick all the parts together and paint the whole thing white because if I use red, the color of the foam might affect the red to become darker. During the process I have made the black part using laphe which this time I have managed to successfully shave it.

In this lesson I painted my wrench to be white so the colour of the foam does affect the colour. The only thing left to do is just leave it to dry and paint the red and cream colour on it.

I have finally finish painting my project to be a crab red colour and uses a little bit of pink on the connector. However, after I finished painting I felt like it was too normal and unattractive so in the next lesson I plan to make a stype all over my moddle to make it more attractive toward the children.
