Assessment one

What is this assessment about?

For your first Skills Assessment Task 1 you need to render the Spray Nozzle below. You need to select a range of 2 point perspective images from the Google Drive link to create a 'compilation' sheet (example below) to then digitally marker render. You can choose which images and how you wish to layout on the sheet. We would recommend setting up an A3 sheet (420mm x 297mm) in Procreate at 150DPI.

You can add material textures to the sheet if you wish. You can leave some images as line drawings and marker others (composition). You can create your own linework (more 'sketchy') if you wish. You can add logos or additional details if you wish. You can add backgrounds or linking boxes. You can add text. You can add photographs to give context. You can zoom in on sections, crop or enlarge to show more details. Be creative!

You will be assessed on what you do and how you do it; how the sheet / composition looks; the quality of your marker rendering; the quantity that you produce in the given time: You will have 5 lessons to complete as much as possible.

Where did i get the templates

My teacher had uploaded many reference images on our school DT website, and he had put them in google drive. I struggled a bit to open the whole file (therefore you can see everything at once, instead of view one image and still need to go back in order to see another one), but actually you only need to click top-right where it says LAST MODIFIED, and it will just send you to google drive.

Here are five original templates that i really like

Above and below are some images I quite like and so I have selected them and rendered them on Procreate.

firstly i started with using masking tools to cut off the original background. Otherwise The white backgroud will remains, and it would simply become some huge white blobs when I choose the backgroud later.

How to?

Three fingers drag down to cut it off.

Process!

First of all, you need to set the image as reference so you wouldnt erase or accidentally ruin the original image; plus you wont need to switch layers over and over again. Therefore set a reference makes rendering easier and saves time.

After all the preparation I started rendering still using real marker brush. (brush library, sketch a day, real marker) And I started the first layer with a slightly more tender purpleish-pink color, and then I added the second layer with a darker color. (pallet, use apple pencil to drag down)

Repeat

On the left is the outcome that I am the most satisfied with. The color conbination is actually inspired by my old water bottle.(which I have used for 4 years) And to be honest the colors are relatively dull (silver and purpleish-pink), therefore I intentionly have added yellow in attempt to brighten it a bit.

outcome without a backgroud

It looks rather plain and dull, and one thing I have realized is that, the images are a little too small as the whole canvas looks enormous and the composition is kinda weird.

Compilation!

I chose this image from google for the backgroud of my rendered works. For the colors and the concept match with the spray nozzles. Plus an interesting backgroud makes everything more vivid.

I have made the opacity of the backgroud lower therefore viewers can focus on the nozzles more easily and the backgroud would be less distracting.

FINAL OUTCOME!

Lastly I have added some texts to make everything looks more completed. The texts also covered up thr fact that the nozzles are a bit small.
