We all like to spend some time outside and enjoy the beautiful Thailand. One of the best times to go outside is in the early evenings. Though, because Thailand is full of mosquitoes, it is hard to not get bitten. This is because mosquitoes are attracted to the human scent (pheromones). Therefore people go and buy mosquito coils. These can be bought at villa market, Marko, 7 - 11, Big C and online shops. The mosquito coils let out a scented smoke that mosquitoes find irritating. Though, under the mosquito coils there is a mosquito coil holder which is made of cheap metal (steel). This holder is very inefficient as it leaves ashes, can rust, can blow over and can break really easily.
Ms Douglas set up a task for us that was to create a range of designs for a mosquito coil holder. This is so that the mosquito coil holder can become a product rather than just a functional piece of metal. We have been instructed to use Thai hardwood tinder to then be mixed with colourful raisins. The raisin must be mixed, created, poured, cut and filed into shape by us. We have also been informed to cut and shape the timber and resin block so that it could be visually attractive. The excess that we will produce from cutting the middle section will then have to be used to hold ( encase) a brass split pin into this by-product piece horizontally to make a second mosquito holder product.
