We have carefully selected resources to help you support your young person to make the best decisions about their next steps, wherever they may lead.
It is important to keep options open, there are many different routes your young person might want to go down. We recommend you explore all the different avenues and keep an open mind, there is no wrong choice. Whether your young person wants to go to university or start an apprenticeship, we will do everything we can to help you support your young person.
One of the best ways to decide whether university is the best option for your young person, and indeed which university will be the right fit, is to attend university open days. These present a unique opportunity to visit campuses and explore what university life will be like for your young person.
There will be many activities for your young person to get involved with! Including:
Campus and Accommodation tours
Course talks and taster lectures
Q & A's with lecturers and students
We strongly encourage you to attend these days with your young person as it will give you both a better picture of university and will allow you to better support them in their decisions. Universities operate in many different ways, with courses being taught in various forms and covering a mixture of content, so it is very worthwhile to attend these events and use them and the information available from universities to help your young person decide which institution is the best for them. Details for how to book can be found on university websites.
In the current climate, many people are feeling the effects of the global pandemic, both physically and mentally. With that in mind the mental well-being of our students is vitally important to them and you as their parents and we want to do all we can to prevent them feeling overwhelmed. We have many resources in place to aid with this within college, but there are also ways for you to help your young person at home to keep them feeling positive when looking at next steps.
Even 15-30 minutes of an activity with your young person can make a noticeable difference in their mental health and having your support behind them will inspire them to look forward with excitement.
