Fall 2025 Inquiry Miner Mayhem Programs
The purpose of this lesson is to instruct students how to wire and solder their 150g combat robots. Students will learn to:
Identify the different electrical components of their bot
Provide power to all their electrical components
Provide signal from their receiver to all the motors
Validate their wiring system
1x Power switch
1x Receiver
1x ESC
2x Drive motors
1x Brushless attack motor
1x XT-30 connector
6x Bullet connectors (3x male, 3x female)
6in of servo wire
6in of heat shrink
Soldering iron + solder
Third hands or soldering stand
Wire strippers/wire cutters
Safety glasses
Electrical tape
Hex key
Multimeter (not required)
Lighter or heat gun (not required)
Tinning: The process of coating a piece of metal (like a wire or solder pad) with solder. The small plating of solder is known as the tinned surface.
Shorting: Connected two wires or conductive materials together where not intended. Shorting will cause an electrical circuit to fail and possibly result in an electrical component burning.
Heat shrink: A thermoplastic which is used in electronics to prevent metal contacting and shorting the circuit.
Common ground: When multiple electrical components are used in a circuit, a common ground must be used to ensure that all components are safely wired and properly receive data signals.
