The R/C Flight Club is one of the most unique clubs in Long Beach Unified School District. No other school has a dedicated Remote Controlled club!
The R/C Flight Club focuses on teaches students the basic Principles of Aerospace Engineering using our fleet of Remote Controlled Aircraft. From planes to drones, we have a diverse fleet of aircraft to fly. Students are allowed to build their own aircraft as well. Letting students build allows them to exercise and improve their STEM skills and basic life skills which students will use in their future careers.
Sato Academy's Firebreather Rocketry is the premiere amateur rocketry group in the Long Beach Unified School District.
Student members hone their engineering and fabrication skills learned from their engineering courses on original rocket designs that incorporate 3D printed parts, composites, and traditional materials. Our members have flown multi-stage rockets, competed in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC), surpassed mach 1 and the "mile-high" mark, and earned High-Powered Rocketry certifications from the National Association of Rocketry (NAR).
Project Lead The Way's Aerospace Class is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of aerospace engineering using the skills learned in the two foundation courses, Introduction to Engineering Design class (IED) and Principles of Engineering (PoE).
The REDD course is a capstone class for 11th and 12th graders that have taken both foundational engineering courses as well as the AE course. The curriculum builds on basic aerospace knowledge by introducing advanced rocketry concepts in aerodynamics and flight stability, building and coding custom flight computer systems, and casting solid fuel propellant to meet project performance requirements. An original course created by James Mills, this course is only offered at Sato Academy.
