The R/C Club is one of the many clubs offered at Sato Academy of Math and Science, a small, comprehensive STEM high school which focuses on the Engineering field. The primary goal of the club is to teach students the basic principles of engineering and the basics of flight with the use of remote-controlled aircraft and various safety procedures for this particular hobby.
We have a variety of aircraft that we order. Most of these require some building. This provides a great opportunity for students to learn how to build a plane. Students will have a better understanding with the planes that they build and fly.
Students utilize a Remote Control simulator in order for them to practice flying R/C planes and drones. Once student pass the simulator test they will start on a beginner aircraft and get more advanced over time.
Every Wednesday at lunch, we host "Flying Wednesdays" where our whole club goes out to fly airplanes and/or drones! We also have some flying time after school for people who want more practice flying or want to try out a newly built or modified aircraft!
Every R/C pilot in this club will crash at one point, it is part of the learning experience! It is vital that students learn how to repair and even improve their planes! It is the embodiment of STEM!
Sato Academy, home of the premier "QuadDragon" team. The QuadDragons participates in the UAS4STEM Search and Rescue challenge. The search and rescue challenge calls for a small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) to complete certain task in a specific order. Our team will participate in the Regional competition in San Diego. Once we win the Regional Competition, we to move on to the National Competition in Muncie, Indiana at the Headquarters of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). So far, our team has won the Regional Competition two times in a row!
In order for us to move on to Nationals, we need your help in funding! Any amount helps, please go to the donations page to learn more about how to help us. We thank you for your help!
