Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Santillan is the Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI). Lt. Cdr. joined the Cabrillo team in the Fall, 2018. His previous teaching assignment was at Reseda Charter High School in Reseda, California. Mr. Santillan retired from the Navy after twenty years of active duty, including three years of enlisted service. He received his officer commission in 1998 through the Navy ROTC program, earning a B.S. in Systems Engineering from the University of Arizona, and in 2007 he earned a M.A. in International Relations from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. While on active duty he served as a Surface Warfare Officer and Full Time Support Officer. He is now enjoying his assignment as Senior Naval Science Instructor at Cabrillo High School. His focus is encouraging students to set and attain goals and objectives while developing confidence, character, teamwork, leadership and professionalism through the NJROTC program.
Master Sergeant (MSgt) Luis Guardado is the Naval Science Instructor (NSI). MSgt Guardado was born in Los Angeles, California. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 28, 1994, and attended the Recruit Training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) in San Diego, California. During his time in active duty, his different tours would include Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, Miramar Air Station, San Diego, and Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Master Sergeant Guardado has been on three combat tours and has been to several countries around the world. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation and Achievement Medal, and Good Conduct Service Medal. His "why" in NJROTC is to teach, develop, and mentor future leaders. "Semper Fidelis." (Always Faithful)
