ROAIR Main Logo Production:
For the principle logo of my airline, I wanted to represent the Romania's flag colours very clearly as my airline is based upon being the flag carrier of the country. Those colours are dark blue, yellow and red all in chronological order which is why I decided to also mix the logos's typography together with the flag colours since the flag contains its colours vertically and it made sense for me to have that link between the logotype 'ROAIR' with the first rhombus of the logomark as well the motto 'Fly With The Best' making everything balanced and sequential.
The first step involved creating a text box and applying the Sansita Bold font onto the text 'ROAIR'. I made sure that the logo was great in size on the canvas to make sure it stood out and was large enough to use for the future designs in the project. Next came the production of the logomark in which I chose to use three colours in a vertical position matching the Romanian flag in both aspects. I created 4 red rectangles as my initial plan was to create logomark that represented a wing and in order to create that effect I also had to combine the rounded rectangles with rhombuses. To create a smoother feel to the shapes I rounded of the edges on all rectangles using the rounding tool in Adobe Illustrator.
Then came the first rhombus, also in red, which aided in transforming the pieces I had into more of a wing look. Like the first 4 rectangles, this was also a rectangle and I adjusted its edges to create a polished and this is a feature that I will apply to the the rest of the logomark. I made the rhombus red because it connected beautifully with the rounded rectangles already creating a wing feel, however for the logo to be complete, I needed more rhombuses to not only match the Romania's colours but also expand the wing. That is when I added a dark blue rectangle, converted to a rhombus because of the rounded edges and tilt, and applied it next to the logotype.
The second to last step of my logo creation process was to adding another converted rectangle directly in the middle which holds the colour yellow to accomplish the Romanian flag overall style and a precise slanted wing relating to the aviation theme. And finally, the motto of my airline and descriptor, 'Fly With The Best' which I placed straight below the logomark which tops off my airline's logo. I believe that because of the colours that the flag of Romania contains, it has made for a bright and colourful logo with the clear message of professionalism.
ROAIR White Logo Production:
During the production procedure of the my main logo I came to realisation that I will also require a neutral logo that can be applied to my airline's main theme colour of dark blue as well many other colours. I chose my second logo to be white because of the many possibilities with colour combinations and also the fact that this will be a very useful logo to use when creating marketing designs or phone applications which might require me to sacrifice certain colours for a design balance and disables me from using my principle logo consisting of mainly dark blue. The overall creation process was quite simple as I already had the foundation and all I needed to do was change the colour of the logotype which was the first step in this process. I then changed the colour of the logomark from the tricolour to white to match the logotype. Last but not least came the slightly more difficult part of this logo revamp, which was to still give the logomark some life by adding the soul of Romania somewhere and somehow. I gave this a cautious thought and came to the conclusion that the best concept would be to utilise the space inside of the white wing. I did this by converting the first idea I had for my main logomark of converting rectangles to rhombuses and using the Romanian tricolour, however faintly changing the notion to have the yellow rhombus larger the its counterparts.
ROAIR Phone App Production:
Creating a phone application was a key design element that I wanted to fulfil as I feel like it is an important aspect in completing a series of designs as well as also being an integral part of an airline's customer relation with many companies having such applications. I firstly produced two rectangles and rounded off their edges to create a phone model appearance which gave my foundation for the app design. I then added phone face principles such as a tab or home button at the button, signal symbol, Wi-Fi symbol battery symbol as well as a black bar in the centre near the top of the phone model. The overall phone face resembles that of an iPhone the closest which is where I got my inspiration from but I gave the look a twist of my own. Next came app features consisting of a profile symbol, name of the profile and the menu button on the right which up to this point everything I have mentioned can be applied to both phone models.
However they become differentiated as the model on the left is the home page and contains information about the most recent flight that has been booked as well the flight ticket so to say. There is also some additional information such as the emissions that the flight could produce, balance available in the ROAIR account and the flight code. On the right hand side, I have created a page that shows all of the recent and important messages that one could acquire from companies such as ROAIR, VISA and Heathrow Airport which are the examples I chose to represent in my illustration.
Going back to the production process, I gradually add visual elements to the illustrations such as buttons that can be pressed on to access another information page and rounded rectangles which I use as the foundation to plot extra visuals or details in such as the dark blue rounded rectangle on the home page containing flight information and the light blue rounded rectangles which consist of recent messages. I have also added in more minute features like dark blue circles in the upper right corner of the light blue rectangles on the messages page to highlight that a message has been viewed or not if there isn't a circle.
ROAIR Billboard Production:
Designing my billboard was an experience I was relatively familiar with since it was an activity that I completed in a project prior to my Extended Major Project. This was a design that I wanted to truly stand out and be effective in its elements and blueprint as the main objective of this design is to market and sell the concept of flying with my airline, ROAIR. As I had already garnered some knowledge in creating billboards I found this designing process to be the most convenient because I could work my way around initial ideas and the designing of this depiction more efficiently.
The first step involved sourcing myself a high quality picture to use as my background and which fit my plan by portraying a holiday destination such as a beach or an island, in this case I chose a beach. Next, I added a white surface on the left hand side of the canvas, which took up almost a third of the overall image, and I did this to create a professional and formal look to my billboard which was also aided by the addition of a dark blue line, matching my logo, to split my foundation of the billboard and the white layer. Lastly, the final production process consisted of plotting my typography with which I took careful consideration to decide where to place the text in order to achieve my desired look. I positioned the main message of this billboard at the top of the white layer in the colour of dark blue to create a clear contrast between every design element on the screen to maximise the motto's efficiency in readability for passer-by's. I then decided to apply my logo, a catchphrase and the website domain at the bottom of the white surface also in the colour of dark blue completing the contrast between all typography on the screen.
ROAIR Website Home Page Production:
For the home page of my airline's website I desired it to be straight to the point and methodical for viewers. I planned for the first-sighting to be convincing and intriguing for a potential customer as to gain loyalty by booking with us in a quick and no hassle manner which is what I chose to represent in my home page. When taking a look at various different airline websites I discovered that they all had one thing in common, having the booking tool instantly appearing on the home page. Taking this fact into account, I decided to follow up on this and design my own booking tool which I was going to apply somewhere on the front page.
Starting off with the first production step in this design, I decided to have a combination of visuals as my foundation. I gathered an image containing an aeroplane flying through the sky following my initial plan to have an aviation related background in this particular website page blueprint. This image was gathered from Adobe Stock which I was able to access as well as license this image by using my college account. I then applied this image on the canvas where I already had a laid a foundation of a light blue layer, which I would later turn to white, and combined the two to create a border like appearance at the top and bottom of the canvas. Next, came the process of building my booking tool. For this step, I used the website Iconfinder to acquire a variety of icons such as an aeroplane (flight symbol) and magnifying glass (search button) to put together a visually sound booking instrument. I downloaded a total of 9 icons from Iconfinder in the format of .AI files and these helped me with half of the creation process for this tool. The other parts involved applying 4 rounded rectangles with a gradient colour consisting of blue leaning towards white as well as a rounded square for which I used to add text in like 'From' and 'To' and dates and also a magnifying glass acting as a search button. I also added two more rounded rectangles, 1 being white and the main background for this tool, and the other being a light grey and placed behind the white, only showing at the bottom of the booking implementation to create a shadow like appearance.
ROAIR Website Manage Trips Page Production:
The next page of the website representation I created was the 'Manage Trips' page. For this design I came up with an initial idea to create an interactive like effect and I chose to do that by once again gathering a mouse icon from the website Iconfinder and creating two black circles to make a clicking effect. Another way I gave life to the still visual was by enlarging the Paris image to make it look it is the one highlighted whilst keeping the other locations' images the same size. However, the commencing step of this design production was to collect some high quality images I garnered these visuals from the website Unsplash. The first image I collected was the one for the background in which I chose a nature theme. After that came all of the pictures for the locations and these included: Bahamas, Paris, Taj Mahal and Bucharest. To create the outline for all of the pictures I created a white square and combined them with the pictures and then applied a clipping mask with the one exception being the Paris clipping mask which involved using a dark blue square. I then applied the text for all of these places above their clipped mask and I differentiated them Paris by having the fonts in a dark blue colour to show that Paris is the selected location. The finishing touches consisted of applying a few more icons from Iconfinder which were an arrow and filter icon which I identified what the functions were by adding text next to these icons. I also used the arrows for more than one function which included to slide through the locations and the already mentioned current 'Active' trips planned.
ROAIR Website Discover Page Production:
Similar to the other designs for the website pages I gathered a background from in Splash and I used this as the main Foundation for this design. I then applied a slightly greyish rectangle at the bottom of the canvas as well as some icons from Iconfinder and a dark blue line across the bottom to match my website theme. Next up came all of the icons and my logo which I applied at the top of the page with the logo in the top left and the rest of the buttons across the right hand side, once again matching my website style. the reason I chose to apply a greyish rectangle of the bottom of the canvas was to create a split like effect as I wanted to try something different with the main inspiration being a project from Adobe Behance which I really liked the look of. After this I added three more rectangles in the colour of white three locations at the top of the rectangles to represent holiday destinations which potential customers could search through. Within the white rectangles I added text boxes which can see sort of information about all of the three locations shown above with one of the locations for example being Rome. Concluding this design, I added three dark blue squares above these locations which I rounded off once again using the Adobe Illustrator tool and directly centred them according to each of the locations.
ROAIR Boarding Pass Production:
In the creation of the boarding pass, I created the rectangle which consisted of a gradient ranging from dark blue to red as well as some pink in between. this was the first sign my user gradient as a foundation for a design and I enjoyed it as a gave me a freedom to design whatever I wanted when it came to the foundation and basis of a blueprint. directly after this came the addition of a white line across the upper of the boarding pass which will help in the separation of content that will be applied in the next steps. I wanted to add more content on the bottom of the boarding pass which is why I chose to apply the white line forever up pass. Next, I added in a barcode PNG which I saw from the internet and I applied my own numbers just below it to create a full barcode visual. to the left of the barcode, I then included typical information that can be found on a boarding pass such as: the gate number, the flight code, class chosen, the seat of the Passenger, take off time as well as the destination the flight will take off from to where it will land. lastly in this production process, I applied my white logo along with my company motto at the top of the boarding pass and it is here where the white logo of my airline becomes very useful as if I used my main logo which is in the colour of dark blue, it would not have matched the flight information as well as looking unpleasant on this gradient background.
