Please contact Ms. Moore with any questions you may have in regards to the activities and assignments. I thank you and your child for your assistance in their learning during this time. πŸ˜ŠπŸ’•πŸ™Œ

Getting Ready for Kindergarten!

It feels like just yesterday that Mrs. Baus and I were visiting you, T.F.s, in your homes for home visits, and now you're soaring off to Kindergarten! For the last two weeks of school, we are discussing Kindergarten - skills you may need, things you will learn, new materials you will use, and just anything else that might be important to know for next year.

On Tuesday (06/02), we made a list of things we know about Kindergarten. The things on the list may have been things we have discussed before in class, or things you have learned from others (like siblings, neighbors, or parents).

Here is a list of things that the AM class came up with!

On Thursday (06/04), we read a story (using Epic! online books) called K is for Kindergarten by By: Erin Dealey and Illustrated by: Joseph Cowman. We exercised to 20 with Jack Hartman and Kickboxed the ABCs with Dr. Jean. Our homework for tomorrow is to choose a letter, and bring an item that starts with that letter or draw a picture of something that might start with the letter sound. As an example, Mrs. Moore shared a container of vitamins and shared that it starts with the letter V and makes the /v/ sound. What letter will you choose to share on Friday (06/05)?

Pet Rocks Activity

As our final Pet Study activity, Mrs. Baus read Charlotte and the Rock that inspired the idea to make pet rocks. No matter if you, T.F.s, have living pets or not, everyone can enjoy making a pet rock! Check out some of the fun ideas the T.F. friends created!

Pet Journal Due the Week of May 25th:

Draw a picture of your pet(s) OR

if you don't have a pet, draw a picture of a pet that you would like to have.

Pet Love πŸ’—

If you have a pet that you would like to be pictured with, please send your pictures to Mrs. Moore.

Week of May 18:

During V.L. on Tuesday, the T.F.s worked hard to match different pet names with their beginning sounds using a SMART Notebook activity. For example, "snake" begins with /s/, "dog" begins with /d/, "cat" begins with /c/, etc.

We also began discussing the places different pets sleep. We realized that not all pets sleep in the same places. For example, a pet fish doesn't sleep in a cage like a pet bird, and a pet dog doesn't sleep in an aquarium like a pet snake.

Looking for a good song about pets? Check this catchy tune out!

On Thursday, the class looked at different close-ups of various pets to see if they could figure out what kind of animal it was. While doing this activity, we realize that many pets have similar characteristics.

We also listened to Mrs. Moore read the story, Memoirs of a Goldfish written by Devin Scillian and illustrated by Tim Bowers.

On Friday, we matched different pets to their best "home" or preferred place to be in the house. For example, we matched a dog to a large kennel and a cat to a tall scratching post. We also listened to the Simple Song, BINGO here!

Introducing... the Pet Study!πŸ•πŸˆπŸ‡πŸ¦€πŸ¦œπŸŸ

As we discussed last week during V.L., our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Study has wrapped up and we have now adjusted our discussion of topic to something a little more personal - PETS!

To kick off the Pet Study, Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Baus shared their own pets with the T.F. friends during V.L. Mrs. Moore introduced her black cat Max, and Mrs. Baus acquainted the class with her daughter's guinea pig, Bean, better known as "Big Boy". Mrs. Baus also has a cat and a dog.

We listened to the story, What Pet Should I Get? by Dr. Seuss and then listened to our friends share what pets they had so we could compile information to graph.

T.F. Discussions for the Week of May 4:

During V.L. this week, we will be discussing what happens to our recycled materials once they leave our homes. We will be listening to a story read aloud by Mrs. Baus called, Why Should I Recycle? Afterwards, we are reviewing the different materials that can be recycled. Thursday we will be discussing what happens to the different recycled materials after they leave the recycling centers. We will also be playing a guessing game to figure out what products come from different recycled materials.

Did you know that Fort Bragg has an award winning and federally recognized program? Don't know if something can be recycled? Check the Fort Bragg Recycling page!

This week concludes our discussion about recycling during our V.L. (Rest assured that if we were at school, there would be much more to discuss!) However, just because we're moving on to something new, doesn't mean that your recycling at home ends.

Keep recycling! πŸ’šβ™»

T.F. Activity Due by the Week of April 27:

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle πŸ’š

On Thursday's Virtual Learning sessions, we began discussing recycling and what types of materials can be recycled. We listened to a story on Epic! called, The Three Little Recyclers by Robin Koontz, a fun twist on the classic, Three Little Pigs story. We also watched a short video about recycling. We looked at the recycling symbol and discussed the location it can be found on some recyclable materials.

Our "homework" for Friday's Virtual Learning session was to find something in our homes that can be recycled. Each child shared the materials they found, and many shared the recycling symbol that could be found on their item. We also boogied to one of Mrs. Moore's favorite recycling songs - Let's Go Green Kids: "Recycle It" **Disclaimer, this song is CATCHY!! Check out the Symbaloo for more recycling songs.

In keeping with our new study, we are challenging you to make something from a recyclable material that you can find around your home. Be as creative as you would like! Please send pictures in, so we can post them to the site. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Journal Prompt for Week of APril 20:

Draw a picture of you and your military family.

During Thursday's virtual learning session, Mrs. Baus shared the short story, The Military Child, and we watched the Sesame Street video, It’s an Adventure! on YouTube.

With it being the week we kicked off the Month of the Military Child, this all prompted the idea for this week's journal.

Enjoy your Spring Break (April 13-17) and we'll share the journals when virtual learning resumes on April 21.

Nursery Rhyme for the Week of April 6:

Listen to the nursery rhyme and find some rhyming words within the song. List them below! πŸ˜‰

Journal Prompt for Week of APril 6:

What is your favorite sport to play?

In the story, If You Give a Dog a Donut,(read by Mrs. Baus during Thursday's virtual learning session), the dog and mouse spending a great deal of time playing baseball. This prompted the question for next weeks journal.
