Where available, AT Lending Libraries can loan the CSC AT equipment for students to try. Quite often, licenses of AT software, low tech tools and adaptive equipment are already available within the schools. Coordinate with: school special education staff, complex Autism teacher leader, vision teacher, hearing impaired teacher and school educational technologists as a first step to locating and acquiring potential AT.
The AT Lending Library is intended to provide items for temporary trials and not permanent placement.

How do I borrow items from the library?
Each time you want to borrow an item(s) from the library, you must complete the online Loan Request form or local process defined by the nearest AT POC.
What do I need to know about receiving and sending materials?
Items can be checked out for two quarters, often with an option to extend for an additional quarter unless there is a waiting list for that item. Educators should make an appointment to view, pick-up and/or return items. For those schools outside the local complex, items will be delivered through the Official Mail System, district delivery in coordination with ISS school visits and mobile AT Lending Library visits to your school/complex. Materials and devices MUST be returned promptly according to their due date by Official Mail.
Who is eligible to use AT lending library materials?
Students on IEP’s and 504 plans have priority of any materials (to include software, adaptive equipment and sound field systems). Staff and general education students not receiving services may use materials from the AT Lending Library once identified IEP and 504 needs have been met. AT Lending Library materials used outside of special education or 504 will be recalled if needed.
What do I do if I don't know how to use the AT equipment or software?
Assistive technology services can be requested to help with; selecting, acquiring, or using an AT device. Services may include functional evaluations and training in the use of the device. AAC iPads may require communication partner training as part of the lending agreement.
Can parents and related services use the library?
Parents must go through their child's special education teacher in order to borrow items from the AT Lending Library. OT's & PT's must coordinate with the special education teachers in order to borrow items from the AT Lending Library.
What items are in the library?
The lending library contains a wide variety of AT and equipment utilized in educational settings. The library does not contain an exhaustive inventory of all AT on the market. Feel free to make requests for future purchases.
How can I find what I want?
Review the items listed on the local inventory. If you need help locating anything contact the District Assistive Technology Specialist (AT-ISS) for assistance.
What do I do if I am not sure what type of device I need or how to use it with a student?
If you are not sure of the type of device you want to borrow or need guidance and support to use it with a student, please contact the AT-ISS or request assistance through your District Special Education Coordinator. You may also consider collaborating with your CSC: SLP, OT, PT, Autism Teacher Leader, and Special Educators.
How many items can I borrow at one time?
There is no specific limit as certain items have multiple components. However, if you are considering borrowing a variety of devices or software to try with the same student, be realistic about how much time will be needed for you and the student to learn and effectively use during the loan period. Keep in mind that trying too many devices at one time can leave everyone feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. When this happens, it will be difficult to get an accurate picture of the benefits of the AT to the student.
What should I do if the device appears to be broken, parts missing, I can’t get it to work or have questions about how to send it back?
Contact the AT-ISS for support. If the mailing box appears damaged (crushed, torn etc.) please make sure this is noted in an e-mail to the AT Lending Librarian. The receiving staff and school are responsible for taking adequate measures to keep the borrowed items in proper working order.
If AT is recommended for a student, who is responsible for buying it and where does the money come from?
If the CSC determines that AT devices and/or services are necessary for the student to benefit from his/her educational program or to have access to the school environment, it is the responsibility of the school and school district to obtain the appropriate products. Funding is a complex issue and there may be different funding options depending on the student’s unique situation. Contact your District Special Education Coordinator and/or the AT-ISS with any questions.
