Meet the Teacher

Hi! I am Sarai Maull: mother of three amazing girls, kindergarten teacher, author, adventurer... the list is endless. I have had the honor and privilege to teach with DoDEA for 29 years. My experience includes Pre-K through 2nd but my passion is KINDERGARTEN!

I was born in Salem, Missouri and moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina when I was nine years old. My father is a retired minister and my mother a retired Ft. Bragg teacher! (Fun Fact: Although I attended Cumberland County Schools, I grew up in the classrooms on Ft. Bragg.  I currently teach at Hampton Primary located at the former site of McNair Elementary; the school my mother taught at for over 30 years.) I finished with my BS in Psychology with a secondary focus in education from the University of Maryland University College while living in Okinawa Japan.

My teaching philosophy is simple... Learning IS fun! Seven years ago I joined a team of teachers wanting to take the next step in education and became part of the opening staff of Kimberly Hampton Primary School. KHPS was the first DODEA 21st Century School. We implemented the Interrelated & Integrated or  "I & I" instructional model. Over these past years I have seized opportunities and taken risks for my students; Documenting the Final Flight of the Kiowa Helicopter, tandem jumping with the US Army Golden Knights and many other adventures; some even resulting in co-authoring/editing several books with students, colleagues and soldiers. These have been the most amazing experiences of my life. Now, my goal is to help students find their voice to write their story... because one day, someone will to want to read it!

The Adventures of  T-shirt

Kiowa.pdf

I was invited to film on the tarmac for the Final Flight of the Kiowa Helicopter. Lt. Colonel Fredricks took 200 Kindergarten students along by flying a Hampton Primary School T-shirt in the lead helicopter. He presented the t-shirt to the students; signed by the pilots that flew that day. It hangs in the HPS hallway as a reminder to... LET YOUR DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT!

The Adventures of  T-shirt II

Golden Knights.pdf

As an Entry Event for our project on Documenting your Adventures, three HPS teachers:

Helen Walker, Victoria Wisemen and I, tandem jumped with the US Army Golden Knights!

Keeping the curiosity and conversations going at home. For fun, the girls and I explore and discuss the physics of a broom.

Kindergarten OH-58 Kiowa

The 1st Squadron 17th Cavalry, 82nd Aviation Brigade received the KHPS Kindergarten Kiowa.
One of my favorite pictures, KHPS t-shirt waiting to be washed between adventures!
While traveling the girls and I like to see unique landmarks like this one; a building inspired by a baked potato wrapped in tin foil.

Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves

I attended the MLB game between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves  at Fort Bragg Stadium on July 3, 2016. The game was broadcast on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball .  While sitting in the bleachers watching the helicopters fly overhead,  I received the picture on the right sent from 17th Cavalry- Kimberly Hampton's Unit.
