The Red Foxes researched the 3 R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The created a posters and a video to share ways to do the 3 R's with others!

3R's Valentine's Box Family Project

As part of our driving question, "How can we, as engineers create a display to teach others about materials and motion?", we asked our families to create a Valentine's Box using Reduced, Reused, and Recycled Materials.

HPS READING RALLY

Both Students and Staff had an amazing time at the Reading Rally! HPS Staff rapped, cheered, sang and danced to promote reading. Dr. Cuadrado, Mid-Atlantic Superintendent, spoke about the importance of life long reading!

Hour of Code

Hour of Code is a great opportunity for students to use their creative & critical thinking skills to connect CCR standards in literacy, mathematics, science, social studies and International Society of Technology Education (ISTE) Standards as they participate in this global event. How can we as historians create a scrapbook to document our adventures in kindergarten?

We had a problem... HOW could we answer our final driving question at the end of kindergarten?...Build a time machine! The students brainstormed, blueprinted, and built a time machine to travel back through our year and write about our adventures in Kindergarten. But why stop there? With a time machine we were able to travel through time to the day we were born, High school graduation, our career, and our 100th BIRTHDAY! We invited our parents in to share our time machine, scrapbook and watermelon!

Collaboration Garden

Students worked collaboratively to create each stage in the life cycle of a flower as well as accurately depicting the parts of a plant. They were tasked not only with depicting the stages but also taking multiple pictures of each stage as it was added to the project board. The final product… a beautiful Collaboration Garden!

What do Scientist do?

Students took on the role of scientists. They asked questions, recorded observations and hypothesized what could be in the mysterious egg sack.

Kindergarteners taught their parents center activities in which, parents were able to collaborate, problem solve and communicate during their visit.

Students worked collaboratively to create a video to answer the driving question: How do we, as reporters, show students and staff our Hampton Pride in all areas of the school?

Redworms and isopods

FOSS Investigation

Students engage with the phenomenon of earthworms. Students dig for redworms, rinse them off, and look at their structures. They study their behavior. Students compare photos and read about worms and their activities in soil. Students engage with the phenomenon of isopods. Students observe structures of two kinds of isopods. They learn to identify which are pill bugs and which are sow bugs. They compare photos and read about isopods. They read about and compare illustrations of a variety of animals and discuss the differences between living and nonliving things.

Students learn the 21st Century Skills: Effective Oral and Written Communication, Collaboration across Networks and Leading by Influence, Agility and Adaptability, Initiative and Entrepreneurialism, Accessing and Analyzing Information, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Curiosity and Imagination through interacting with a cardboard box.
