Critical Thinking is the highest rated skill for 21st century employment, but why is critical thinking hard to teach?

For starters, critical thinking is hard to define.

Critical thinking involves skills such as reasoning, inferring, interpreting, analyzing, and meta-cognition. But in order to use these skills, students also need to develop critical thinking dispositions that will enable them to apply these skills across multiple situations.

Further complicating critical thinking instruction, critical thinking is often context dependent. Often, we ee the best critical thinking in our children when they are in trouble! When a kid is trying to talk his or her way out of a punishment, we see pretty powerful critical thinking skills, but we may not see the same level of dedication to academic tasks.

The thinkLaw program focuses on developing critical thinking skils AND dispositions at the same time.
