Somme American Cemetry
On Friday, November 8th, 2024. The 9th jrotc "Cougar" battalion started its journey to Albert France stopping at the Somme American Cemetry, the home to over one thousand fallen World War one veterans. Here cadets learned the stories of these soldiers and the battlefield they were standing on. Many cadets laid poppies on the graves. the battalion also presented a reaf to one of the fallen soldier's grave.
Unit History
The Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) was established by the National Defense Act of 1916. JROTC was established in Europe with the opening of five battalions in 1973. The 9th Army JROTC Battalion was organized during the school year 1983 in Ansbach, Germany.
The Battalion was designated as an “Honor Unit with Distinction” from the Annual Inspection in the year 2004-2005 and has maintained this through the current date.
In keeping with the reputation of the Battalion, the JROTC Marksmanship and Drill Teams are highly competitive. They have received multiple trophies in Marksmanship and Drill Team competitions.
The 9th U.S. Army JROTC Battalion has a history of excellence that will continue on into the future. The battalions achievements and community support exemplify the mission of JROTC “To motivate young people to be better citizens!”
