We at Dink Shot are taking time off to be with our family and friends this week. We are thankful for the sport of pickleball, and grateful it's taking over the world! It's an activity that connects multiple generations of players - from kids to grandparents, and offers a way for them to spend a fun time together. It's a sport you can play inexpensively, year-round, and for a lifetime. We also like the fun names like, pickle and kitchen! So, we hope you'll be well, sleep well, and meet your friends in your kitchen to eat good food!
More Than A Sport

The game of pickleball consists of a lot of different aspects. It is intense, fast-moving, and slow but the best part about pickleball is that it is social. It depends on the level of play and the intentions you going in with. Most of the time, you can meet a lot of amazing people while playing. Just like how business and golf go together like bread and butter, pickleball is just like that. Here are some reasons why pickleball is a social sport.
It is an easy sport to learn. There isn't a physical advantage in pickleball like you see in most sports. There is no age restriction to be able to play. This makes it easy to meet all sorts of people.
Mixed doubles and rotation. Depends on how you play, but most of the time there are opportunities to be able to play mixed doubles.
Creates a friendly and welcoming environment. This is what pickleball is all about and at Dink Shot, we keep this to be our main objective.
Post play socializing. Post-pickleball session is common in pickleball. This is where people come together and talk about their games.
Preparation Pickleball

Being prepared for pickleball is a very important thing to consider. Most people don't understand that pickleball is as much a sport as Tennis or racquetball. Being prepared is very important. Here are some steps to consider before even stepping on the pickleball court.
Make sure you have the right equipment. If you are playing for fun or playing competitively, you have to have the right shoes. The most common injuries that are related to pickleball are because of the shoes you wear. Just like in any sport, there are shoes meant to for that sport to keep you on your feet. Invest in court shoes or pickleball-related shoes. These will help you in pickleball and most importantly help prevent any unneeded injuries.
Another step to consider is stretching before you step on the court. Stretching is very important for pickleball because you are constantly moving and changing directions. Take the time to do this, preferably 20 minutes before you play. Stretching will help you perform better and also help prevent any injuries.

Pickleball has become the fastest-growing sport in America from 2020 to the present day. In 2020, there were about four million pickleball players in the US. Now, there are close to nine million players in the US. Let's look back to the very beginning of pickleball.
Pickleball was created in 1965 on Bainbridge Island near Seattle, Washington. Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum were the ones that created pickleball. The name of pickleball is believed to have two origins of its name. One origin is that the sport is named after the Pritchard's family dog Pickles, who loved watching them play. Another origin is that it comes from the term "pickle boat". The meaning behind that is the last boat to come in with a catch. In honor of mental health awareness day happening this week, this week Dink Shot's social media will be based around this very important day. Mental health is a very important thing to take care of. The world is getting better at exposing how important your mental health is, but it is still not talked about enough. Speak up to loved ones because they care, don't think twice about it.
Here is how pickleball can be good for your mental health. One is that you are staying active and moving around. Winter depression is huge in Wisconsin, I don't know why we deal with this cold a** weather every year. Dink Shot is a perfect way to stay active and have fun doing it! Secondly, pickleball is more social than it is a sport. It can help you talk to people and share some laughs. Come into Dink Shot on Tuesday, October 10th for 50% off all play.

Summer is officially over in Wisconsin and winter is coming right around the corner. Fall is one of the best times to be in Wisconsin though. The cool climate, changing leaves, and the smell in the air. Don't forget about our Green Bay Packers starting their season!
Oh that's right and Pickleball! Playing pickleball outside is a great time. Playing around beautiful nature, there is no time like it. Sad to say that it will all be coming to an end soon.
