Women in Sport :

In my podcast, I spoke about the ongoing inequality faced by women in sport, focusing on the gender pay gap, lack of media coverage, and limited sponsorship opportunities. I highlighted how female athletes are often paid significantly less than their male counterparts, even when competing at the same elite levels. I also discussed how women’s sports receive far less media attention, which affects visibility and reduces the chance for athletes and teams to attract major sponsorship deals. These factors create a cycle that continues to undervalue women in sport, and I emphasised the importance of increased investment, exposure, and respect to help close the gap.

Retirement Village

For my SAP, I had the opportunity to visit the Evergreen retirement village in West Gosford, where I spent time meeting and talking with a few of the residents. They shared their life stories with me, reflecting on their experiences, challenges, and special memories. After listening to them, I wrote a story based on their lives, capturing their journeys in a meaningful way. When I gave the finished piece back to them to read, they were so happy with it and really appreciated seeing their stories written down. It was a rewarding experience for me because I not only learned about their pasts but also felt proud that my writing could bring them joy.

Landcare

As part of my SAP, my class and I went and did landcare, where we helped clean up the beach by cutting and removing plants that were harmful to the environment. These plants damage the natural ecosystem, so taking them out allows native plants to grow properly and keeps the area healthy for wildlife. It was hard work, but it felt good knowing we were doing something positive for the environment and making a real difference to the beach. Working together as a class also made it fun, and it was rewarding to see the area looking cleaner and healthier after our efforts. This experience also taught me the importance of teamwork and responsibility, as we all had to work together and put in effort to achieve a positive outcome for the environment.
