Year 12: Term 3

For my final exhibition, I presented a summary of all the work I have completed throughout the year, bringing together my thesis research, LTI experiences, and sporting journey. My main focus was on play-based learning in primary education, where I explained how this approach enhances student engagement and enjoyment compared to traditional teaching methods. I included recent facts about Finland, which was once considered the most successful education system in the world, but has recently faced challenges such as declining outcomes and changes in curriculum that have influenced its global ranking. This highlighted the importance of continually reflecting on and adapting teaching practices. Alongside my academic work, I also gave an update on my LTI experiences in primary schools, where I gained valuable insights into both play-based and traditional learning approaches, and developed a strong interest in supporting students. I connected this with my sporting journey, reflecting on how resilience and discipline from my time in rugby league and recovery from injuries has influenced both my learning and future career goals.

Year 12 : Term 2

This term I presented my exhibition on play-based learning in primary education, which is also the focus of my senior thesis. I chose this topic because I wanted to explore how different teaching approaches influence student engagement, enjoyment, and overall learning outcomes. My exhibition gave me the opportunity to share the progress of my thesis so far, including the results of my study comparing play-based and traditional teaching methods. The findings clearly showed that students responded more positively to play-based activities, which allowed them to be creative, collaborative, and hands-on in their learning. Alongside this, I used my exhibition to reflect on how my portfolio is developing and how my experiences in learning support continue to connect with my interest in education. Overall, this exhibition acted as both an update on my thesis journey and a chance to show how my research links to my long-term goals in primary education.

Year 12 : Term 1

For this exhibition, I focused on giving an update across three main areas: my thesis, my portfolio, and my LTI. My thesis continues to explore play-based learning in primary education, and I was able to share the progress I’ve made with both my research and my writing. I spoke about how play-based learning encourages creativity, collaboration, and engagement in the classroom, and how my study comparing it with traditional methods is helping me better understand its effectiveness. Alongside this, I reflected on the development of my portfolio, which has been a way to showcase not only my academic work but also my personal growth and experiences. I also shared updates from my LTI, where I have been working in learning support. This experience continues to shape my interest in education, as I’m gaining real insight into how students learn and how different teaching styles affect them. Altogether, this exhibition tied together my learning so far and showed how my thesis topic, my portfolio, and my practical experience in schools are all connected to my future goals in education.

Year 11 : Term 3

This term I completed my exhibition on sports psychology. I chose this topic because I wanted to explore how the mental side of sport can influence the way athletes perform. My focus was on areas such as motivation, confidence, focus, emotional control, stress management, and resilience, and I looked at how these factors contribute to success in sport. I found it really interesting to learn about the techniques athletes can use to improve both their performance and their mindset. The project gave me the opportunity to research and apply ideas in a practical way, which helped me understand the importance of psychology not only in sport but also in everyday challenges. Overall, this exhibition allowed me to dive into a topic I’m passionate about and gave me a stronger understanding of how powerful the mind can be in achieving goals.
