Data Collection
During the summer of 2024, I set up my experiment and collected my data! I placed artificial leaf packs into a local stream in order to determine if garlic mustard, an invasive weed, was a suitable food source for aquatic insects. I ran into a few bumps in my methodology along the way, but I went into my Junior year with a great set of data and invaluable field work experience.
Research Paper
In the fall of my 2024, I analyzed my data and wrote my research paper, a detailed account of the scientific process I went through during my project. Through my statistical analysis, I discovered that garlic mustard is not a viable food source for aquatic insects, although not necesarily due to the reasons that I hypothesized.
WESEF
In March, I competed in WESEF, our county science research fair. I was invited to the awards ceremony, where my work was recognized with the Teatown Young Environmentalist Award.
