In the summer of 2023, I read articles, watched videos, and went on adventures that broadened my scientific knowledge and allowed me to explore different fields of research. During this search, I followed my existing interest in environmental and ecological sciences, which ultimately led me to my 2024 research project idea.

1st Journal Article

At the beginning of 2024, I was tasked with creating a poster presentation for a scientific research paper. Research papers are complex, thorough, and often hard to digest. To create the poster, I had to develop comprehention skills so that I could better interpret scientific papers. This assignment would prove to be valuable practice for my own research posters later on in my science research journey.

Somers Fair

By May of 2024, I had imagined and drafted an overview of my very own research project, with the help of my new mentor, Dr. Dave Roon. With my project planned out, I created a poster for the Somers Science Fair, which detailed my proposed project. I won 1st Place in the Environmental Science category! I was now officially a Second Year.
