Global Pathways

About Me & My Global Path

I'm Spencer Belson, a senior at Andover High School. I am a three-sport athlete, running cross country in the fall, swimming in the winter, and competing in track & field in the spring. In school, science classes are my favorite, especially those with an environmental or biology focus. Outside of sports and school, my biggest hobby is fishing. Through my love for fishing, I've also developed a deep interest in conservation. Both of these passions have taken me to woods and waters around the United States, broadening my perspective of our nation's natural resources and the ways we as humans interact with them.

Since freshman year, I've strove to expand my global lens through the Global Pathways program. I hope this program will introduce me to new cultural practices, products, and perspectives that will serve to make me more knowledgeable about societies worldwide.

My extended family has roots in Poland, Russia, England, and Ireland. Within my immediate family, I am exposed to a unique blend of customs and beliefs through our participation in both Christian and Jewish traditions. I've expanded on these perspectives through travel to England, Italy, Canada, and Portugal. I relish the opportunity for exploration as I immerse myself in new cultures.

In an effort to give back to the global community, I've drawn upon my passion for fisheries conservation to engage in global service projects in North Carolina and Montana. These service trips have inspired and informed my Capstone Research Project, an analysis of how fish and macroinvertebrate biodiversity is effected by the final dam on the Shawsheen River.

After graduation, I look forward to pursuing fisheries conservation at a career level. I hope to attend college for environmental science, broadening my global perspective on the field through foreign study.
