During an H4, as a group, we watched the documentary The Human Element. This documentary covers the impact of human activity on the environment. Ranging from pollution to climate change, this 2018 documentary uses the four elements (Earth, Water, Fire, and Air) to shine a light on how human activity has drastically changed its community.
Let in the Light was a H4 activity where we had the opportunity to make candles and latterns out of magazines. Participating in this event with several friends made this a very fun expierence and despite time not working in our favor, we still managed to produce some nice candle wax.
Discover AHS is an event that allows 8th graders and their parents to explore the different clubs and activities at the high school. At this event, I was honored to have the opportunity to represent Global Pathways at the club fair and introduce the Capstone class in the Collin Center. Despite the event being a little chaotic at first (in terms of the number of people in attendance), I enjoyed seeing the parents and 8th graders excited to join Global Pathways once they enter high school.
2022 was my first ever Global Summit. Held at the Andover Youth Center, my brother and I were privilaged to be given the opportunity to lead the icebreaker activity which was full of fun and excitement. After the icebreaker activity, we explored that many fun and interactive workshops including rock painting, lei making, salsa dancing, and The Portal. For our design challenge, we were tasked to design a plan to preserve culture. As a group, we championed the idea that providing more education is the most effective tool to keeping cultures alive.
At this year's Global Summit, my brother and I had the prvilage to lead the Icebreaker activity once again. This time, we played musical chairs with over 70 students which was a fun and unqiue expierence. Apart from the icebreaker activity, we also took part in workshops that centered around the theme of Clean Energy & Sustainable Cities. My personal favorite workshop was the scavenger hunt downtown where we were tasked with looking for certain objects around town that may or may not help with reducing pollution. For our design challenge this year, we were tasked with creating a solution to the effects the recent dam removals in the Shawsheen River.
For my last Global Summit, we tackled the theme of Life on Land and Life Underwater. For the last time, I along with my brother and some friends, organized the workshops and activities for the day. Our favorite workshop from this summit was the Sushi-making station. Other stations that we planned out were a scavenger hunt, a paper ley-making station which was inspired by the recent Thailand trip in the winter, mural making, and a loon survival game which was our design challenge. The game introduced the idea of evolutionary trade-offs, more specifically regarding the trade-offs of animals moving away from the water. Overall, the Global Summit was a highlight of my high school experience as I was able to try many new things and share many unique experiences with my friends.
