In 2022, I was lucky enough to be allowed to Travel to the Big Island of Hawaii on a service trip with my High School. On this trip, I emerged from a culture I had not yet had much exposure to. I got to see all the beauty this island has to offer and also hear firsthand from natives about the struggles the Island faces. While tourism has benefited Hawaii's economy, it also has limited its resources, especially fresh water. On this trip, I learned about native foods, plants, species, language, history, and also the importance of persevering in Hawaii.
