Construction Fair Career Days
There are many opportunities for students after high school, you just have to know where to look!
The "University" route is NOT the only route to a good career.
One Example of finding an alternate route is the Tucson Electrical Joint Apprenticeship & Training Program.
Another example was the Ellison-Mills Construction company which focuses on large scale plumbing.
Pima CC, Fred Acosta Job Corps, and the military are other examples.
I recommend meeting with me, your counselor, or a Gear Up coach to find many options for next year.
Remember, More school = More time
Lastly, FAFSA Update and costs for school/ training.
Class of 2024 🎓
With 1st quarter behind us, you all are that much closer to graduation day! We are so excited to celebrate you and all of your accomplishments. Before you are ready for that big day in May, there are some things YOU and your family need to be aware of and plan for to be prepared. Here goes!
Rembrandt Grad Information
Rembrandt Grad is the company that provides AHS seniors with graduation supplies. In the next week or so, you will receive an order packet from Rembrandt Grad during your English class. There are a lot of items in the packet. Keep this in mind as you go through the brochure:
Seniors that are walking in the graduation ceremony will, at the minimum, need to order a cap and gown.
All other items in the brochure are OPTIONAL.
It is common for graduates to mail out graduation announcements to family and friends. You can order through Rembrandt or use other online companies (Shutterfly, Minted, Snapfish, Vistaprint, Zazzle).
All orders are done directly through Rembrandt on their website: rembrandtgrad.com. Please order before November 23rd. Orders will be delivered to our site in early April. If you do not have an English class on campus, you can get the order packet from Ms. Sandate in the Athletics Office.
Senior Pictures
Yearbook and Photo Clubs will be hosting two full days of Senior Portrait sittings, November 7 & 8, 2023, in Room 100. Our clubs will provide indoor and outdoor settings for your portraits. Seniors are encouraged to dress up and come with props and ideas for poses.
There is NO CHARGE for the portrait sittings. The portrait of your choice will be included in our 2023-24 Panther Trails Yearbook, and several low-cost portrait packages will be available for purchase through May, 2024.
You will come for your sitting during your Government or Economics class. If you are absent on your day, make-up sittings will be available by appointment through December 8. See Ms. Randall in 101 or Mr. Counts in 100 to schedule a make-up appointment.
For those Seniors contracting with outside photographers for their senior pictures, you must submit a picture NO LATER than January 31, 2024 to be included in the yearbook. Email your photo file to lrandall@student.amphi.com.
Graduation Speaker/Performer
All graduating seniors are eligible to audition to be a graduation speaker/performer. We will select 3-4 students to speak during graduation. Information about auditions will be distributed at the end of March. Start thinking about whether you want to do this.
Outstanding Debts
Students that have any outstanding debts in the bookstore will NOT be allowed to walk at graduation. Start planning now! If you have outstanding debts or think you might, put together a plan NOW to square away your account so you are not hit with a big bill in May.
What to do NOW
Take care of your academics.
Finish 1st semester strong. Focus on being in class on time, turning in all your work, and working hard to crush final exams
All graduation requirements (earned credits) must be completed no later than May 10th by 4:05 PM. Online courses must be completed by the end of the school day on May 8th. Only coursework completed before these deadlines will count towards participation in graduation.
Meet deadlines.
There are a lot of things to do in the 2nd semester (please see attached timeline). Make sure you stay informed about what you need to complete for your big day in May.

Senior Survey coming soon! Check your email tomorrow!
Ok, we are almost at the 4th quarter of the 4th year. Let's check-in.
How are you feeling?
Scared?
Prepared?
Confused?
Checked out?
Excited?
A little Sad?
Motivated?
Not wanting to grow up yet?
Everything?
2 out of 3 Seniors have real Fears for life after graduation.
What to do?
Be aware that worry or fear is normal. Every major change or move in your life will have some fear and some excitement.
Worry is not always bad. It means that you care.
Try to avoid self-sabotage. Some students do this without knowing. They check out or set themselves up to fail. Sometimes we call this senioritis.
When you sense it in yourself talk about it with people you trust.
No matter how confident others seem, almost every student goes through a little anxiety as they get closer to leaving high school.
Lets talk about senioritis
Do you suffer from some of the following?
Procrastination, particularly on such items as homework, college applications, and financial aid forms.
Short-term memory loss of any important due dates.
A strong tendency towards laziness for anything school-related.
Extreme difficulty waking in the morning and severe tardiness to most anything.
Lack of interest in their academic performance, particularly if they "know" what they are doing next year.
Increased frustration with other high schoolers, particularly freshmen, sophomores, and juniors who can no longer relate to their life.
Feeling stuck.
Senioritis could be a symptom of very real pressure and worry.
Many seniors, whether they are thinking about the future or not, recognize that life is going to be different for them, this time next year. You can prepare or you can ignore it all, but it is natural and normal to feel "off". You may get frustrated easier. You may find yourself forgetting things. You may feel cold or aloof. Or you may feel the opposite of that, and become over-emotional about things that didn't use make you feel that way.
What can you do?
First, understand that feeling "off" right now, in any way, is normal. It is so normal, that we have trivialized it with the name of "Senioritis".
There is nothing wrong with you. Many students will admit that they start to feel "dumb", like they have forgotten everything. You aren't and you haven't. Your mind is working overtime to manage the unknown coming around the corner.
Try to be self-aware. When you recognize that you are thinking or feeling in a way associated with senioritis, know that that is normal. Avoid catastrophizing.
Be aware that seniors in high school have made their transitions to the next step for generations, and you will too.
Talk to your counselor, your friends, your parents, your teachers. Sharing worries can be helpful if you are finding people to support you.
Make lists. Write them or type them. Sometimes problems seem smaller when you break them down.
Play.
Recognize the achievement of making it through high school during COVID. It's a big deal. You may not recognize the accomplishment, but it is real. If you graduate this May, this summer, or next year, doing it at this time is hard. You can be proud of it, even if you don't totally understand why.

Shifting into financial aid season
(October)
FAFSA Night, online --> September 30th at 6pm.
We will be going over all the requirements to start the FAFSA. We will be covering most of the questions and basic scenarios that come up.
Before you do the FAFSA you and one parent will need to create an FSA-ID.
If you can't make it to the online workshop, you can click on the link below to see what you need to start the FAFSA on October first.
Senior timeline overview
Bare bones and generic
Specific deadlines are not included. I need you to be vocal about what you are thinking related to your plans after graduation. For example, if you are interested in going to ASU, their Raise.me scholarship is due by 9/1. Their application is open.
Why College?
It is NOT the only option. I want all students to have a clear path, whatever that is.
That said, people who earn college degrees, industry certifications or other advanced training tend to make more money and/or have more opportunity than people who immediately enter a full-time career after high school.
