6 cups of garden soil
2 bottles of 500 mL water
Get two shallow pans and fill each with 3 cups of garden soil. Label one pan as A and the other as B.
Gradually pour the first bottle of water into Pan A. Observe what happens to the soil. Describe the movement of the soil.
Repeat procedure number 2 with Pan B but, this time, rapidly pour the second bottle of water into Pan B. Observe the difference in the movement of the soil in Pan A with that of Pan B.
Record the time and the observations you have made.
In which pan did the soil move faster? Why?
In which pan did the soil move farther? Why?
Which procedure moved more soil? Why?
What happened to the color of the water?
What can you conclude about erosion based on the experiment?
