10/21/2024 - This was my very first project while on The Muse. Using an IPhone 14, a Gimble, and phone mics, my partner and I interviewed 5 people of varying grades, majors, races, and opinions. It was to serve as an aid to "Politics is BRAT", an editorial in the first issue this year. I am proud of this piece because of the extensive editing it surprisingly took. My CTE laptop happened to hate Adobe Premiere, so after long download and upload times and multiple drafts, I was able to get it posted.
10/25/2024 - Ever since I joined the multimedia section of The Muse, my biggest goal was to make Muse Talks a consistent and prominent feature of the publication. So, with the help of fellow staffer Giselle Fernandez-Perez , I created the first episode of Muse Talks of this school year., using Mr. Raicovich's sound booth. I created an intro script and had a list of questions for my guest beforehand. This project was important to me because I tackled one of my goals. It was difficult using Audacity for the first time, but I was able to watch some videos and learn.
11/20/2024 - After viewing the success of the first podcast episode, I wanted to expand on a completely different topic, so all types of listeners would tune into Muse Talks. Also, rather than having another guest from The Muse, I asked visual senior Ameera Spence to be my guest. Our first recording, which was only 6 minutes long, ended up being too quiet, but thankfully our second recording, which extended to 13 minutes was a hit. This piece was recognized on Wow Wednesday, which I was very proud about. I again used Audacity, and the editing process was smoother.
11/20/24 - This was my first attempt of design on The Muse. I had not tried promoting Muse Talks, so I changed . Using the resources from the drive, I was able to find a suitable color along with a firm yet fun font. The audio animation came from Canva, while the lowercase "m" came from the drive as well. In the background, a clip of Giselle's fiery opinion plays. I chose that clip because I felt it gave an introduction into what sort of stance Giselle would take. Overall, just a nice and tidy job.
1/22/25 - Continuing the podcast train, I decided to bring a little of my culture into it. This podcast, done with Sabiha Prova, social media staffer, was about how one’s culture changes the way one views the feelings of love. This idea came from a conversation I had in class with Ashwin and Brooke, and I’ve had the same conversation with Sabiha many times. We had trouble with recording in the studio, so she came over on the weekend and we filmed in a quiet room in my house. However, it was a success and garnered 19 plays on Spotify.
2/19/25 - My very last podcast of this school year was Backstage Access. I wanted to shed light on technical theatre and the specifics of what that major did. This idea came from a conversation with Sabiha, where she was saying how being a visual major changed her view on art. However, I wanted to see how technical theatre majors felt about it. I talked to Sherry Wiedrich, who worked on numerous shows at Dreyfoos. She gave such a great interview, and you could feel her passion and love for her art. We got this done really fast, which I’m proud of.
2/17/25 - This video served as a complement to the print story in Issue 3. I thought the idea was so cute, and it was the first time I was able to present a pre-draft to the class. It was hard getting them to do the video as they were both quiet girls who didn’t have as strong of a relationship I had hoped for, but I found their collective shyness suitable for the video. Editing the video was pretty simple, and it provided me more experience with both a Gimbal and Premiere Pro.
3/20/25 - This Instagram reel was my first experience in covering a live event. It was really fun recording everyone's movements and gestures around the court. Although some of the shots were a tad shaky, I managed to create a video that had the highlights of the game. I had a much longer first draft with more highlights, but it had to be cut down. Plus, some of the footage was used by SGA for their own video.
3/24/25 - This video was done really quickly, as I was assigned it the day before I filmed and edited. It was sweet seeing the seniors wearing their class colors (despite it being Class Cliques) while they reminisce over their last spirit week. I thought Maryzabella’s interview was incredibly bittersweet, which was what I was hoping for. Editing it was no issue; however, it did not get the playtime I was hoping for.
3/24/25 - This video was created with three hours worth of filming with Visal, and it took a great deal of B-roll surfing. It took me almost three to four hours to find the appropriate film for the recap itself. I learned a lot about Adobe Premiere Pro during this project, such as marking in and out, and that experience has lended me in future projects. I had some trouble staying focused on my project with all the commotion around me, which is something I hope to work on.
5/9/25 - My very last project of the year was a package on our local school rapper, King Smooth. I wanted to gain experience in making a package, so I can be knowledgeable enough to be a good editor next year. It was difficult reaching out to him, but Ashwin helped me with that. He was very cooperative throughout the entire process, and his interview was great. He talked with fire and heartiness that I really valued. Interviewing his friend was also difficult as we had scheduling conflicts with pulling him out of class, but thanks to Brian, it got done.
9/17/2025 - My very first project of the year was a review of local hot chicken places. The hosts, Sabiha and Malina, were really good guests, since Sabiha was able to bring a more technical and knowledable side to the review, while Malina brought humor and spice to thhe review. The filming day was hot, so filming at Dave's was a little uncomfortable. The tripod did hold up for most of the video, although I had to hold it the whole time. I am very proud of this video because of the editing and quality; it felt like a massive step up from last year. It also remains the most viewed video on The Muse Youtube with 134 views.
10/05/2025. - My very first podcast of the year was an explanation and discussion of fantasy football. I wanted to stray away from the more emotional and poignant topics from last year's podcast in order to attract a wider audience. I felt that Brian would be perfect, since he represents a large demographic of the students that are not in our base yet. I loved filming this episode; Brian remained professional and serious while providing funny anecdotes. It also helped me teach my staffer Giselle how I want podcasts to be edited. It is currently the most listened-to podcast this school year with 32 plays.
10/12/2025 - I was approached by Natalie, who was writing a story about Mr. Chira for Issue 1. She wanted to add a multimedia element to her story, so I thought a Q&A would work best, since he has a distinct cadence and speakings style. I thought I had overexposed the shot, which diminishes the quality of the video. Making this video helped me learn how to implement more text graphics in multimedia and how to make just a simple interview something engaging and eye-catching.
10/20/25 - I had the privilege to attend a school field trip to the NSPA convention, and Sienna and I signed up for the podcast competition. The theme was Live at [YOUR SCHOOL's NAME], so Sienna and I decided to recap three quick events that were happening in the month of October. We talked about the Norton Art Museum field trip, multicultural auditions and callbacks, and "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child". We ended up receiving an Honorable Mention from NSPA and I hope to improve our podcasts based on the feedback that we received.
11/1/2025 - Similar to the Mr. Chira Q&A, Vi approached me asking for a multimedia element for her feature. This interview was very fun; Emily was a cooperative and open person, even with the problems we went through. For example, we propped the camera on a desk and many books to mimic the style of a tripod, while she sat down on a chair. We also faced difficulties with the SD Card, and I had to quickly find a replacement from Visal. However, we all had a lot of fun, with many laughs and smiles resulting from this project.
11/21/2025 - This podcast was sparked by the rounds I made during class in order to create ideas for the next Muse Talks episode. I had a long discussion with Lila before we filmed this episode about the topic of overhead. She was very educated and interested in the topic, and I think that reflected in her voice and tone throughout the podcast. She came in with so much research, and I think the quality of the podcast benefited from her knowledge. I think my hosting skills could have improved, as I found myself stuttering and struggling to find words. It was the lengthiest podcast up until the next one, and, so far, has 9 streams on Spotify.
12/3/25 - Out of all the podcasts I have ever done, this was my favorite of all time. Sienna and I got to sit down with two incredible guests, John Archibald and Becca Andrews, to talk about things the four of us were passionable about: journalism, current affairs, and history. I loved Archibald and Andrews's chemistry; it makes sense that they have such a great podcast together already in American Shrapnel. I was proud of ourselves because at the end, they gave us glowing reviews as hosts, and this project will always sit close to my heart.
