This was the first piece of writing I did for my publication, and I decided to cover it on a whim. Initially, there wasn't a reason besides to dip my toe into writing, but I learned some things when I wrote the brief about writing and the importance of hearing other's voices just as much as seeing their stories through photos. My goal with this brief ended up being to shed more light on the achievements in the art department, which I noticed don't get things written about a lot. After my interview with the person who put the gallery together, I wanted to choose a quote that I think would apply to many of the seniors. This brief allowed me to gain more experience in writing and interviewing.

I did this article for my publication in order to familiarize myself more with the writing process so I can be a better editor and gain some more experience when it comes to writing for events. I had been a part of this performance in the year prior, and wanted to shed some light on some of the people's pieces because a majority of the student body that is not focusing in communications doesn't go to these spoken-word performances and do not see the work that goes into them behind the scenes. I chose the mini-feature format because I wanted to add some more alt-copy content onto our website and thought it would best suit the angle of the story, which was to highlight the processes of the performers.

Being a volunteer at this event allowed me to see firsthand the importance of being a blood donor and also allowed me to have a look into the behind-the-scenes and efforts of the National Honor Society to host this event. Because of this, I wanted to take on the responsibility and raising awareness for the blood drive, because it had always been something that just seemed scary to me in the past. While I was manning the snack stand, I was also getting interviews and observing the different stations at the blood drive. This was the first piece of content I put out during my senior year, and the feeling of satisfaction I had as a result of getting it done continues to fuel my drive this year to do more content.

This is the first print story and feature story I've done on the publication. When seeing the budget for the print issue, I thought that this seemed like a very interesting story and I've always been keen on trying to showcase the unique things about other people and their lives and passions. Being able to get to know Lucy, the story who this is about, has inspired me continue seeking out features, which I hope to focus on more throughout the year. I went to her weightlifting gym and met her coach, and I was able to see Lucy in her element, which allowed me to see the way she works and the kind of person she is. Seeing the story come together has been such a cool opportunity, as the rest of my team has done such a good job giving Lucy justice.
