I took this picture for the cover story for the second issue of the Muse, and I thought it captured the story that I was trying to tell, more specifically, the end of an era (the demolition of a popular movie theater). I had to weave through a crowded restaurant and got a very unique angle of the demolition that I couldn't from just standing on the ground. I think this angle portrayed the story better, mainly because it peaks into the rubble on the construction site while still capturing the tall, modern office building standing tall and almost triumphantly behind it.
This was the first event I took pictures of for my publication, and I think this event changed my perspective on photography in many ways. Running around an audience during a live jazz concert was a very nerve-wracking and exhilarating experience, and I had to get over my fear of going outside of my comfort zone to take this picture. I've always loved music, but have never known how to put that love into my art. With this picture and the others from this event, I felt I was able to portray music the way I always wanted to simply by observing and listening to it.
This was a picture I took during spirit week of a dancer during an event. I took this picture because of the expressions and unique dance moves my subject was doing, and seeing the contrast between the blue and red made my subject stand out even more. I think this was one of my favorite things to cover because live coverage is very exhilarating and it is an opportunity like no other because it will never happen again and every picture you take is not something you planned to happen. I chose to use this picture because I feel like it's a good example of what I can do and how much I love capturing people doing what they love.
This was one of the pictures I took for my first assignment on The Muse. Upon reflection, it's not my favorite, simply because there is not much going on. I have already learned so much during the first 4 months of the publication, and I already feel like I have progressed a lot from this first story. I can still confidently say that although this picture is not my favorite, I think it captures the vibrant and almost artificial feel of the place I was taking pictures in, but I know if I could do it again, I'd do it differently.
This was a photo I took backstage during a yearly school band performance that is very important for Dreyfoos. Going into communications, I never thought I'd step foot backstage again. Being able to take pictures backstage at this event was such an exciting experience and helped me grow a lot. I loved the chaos and seeing the performers preparing themselves mentally and physically before they went onstage, something that I would not have experienced if it weren't for this opportunity. It helped me look for the more unique angles I could capture when doing a story, rather than just focusing on the obvious.
I also took this photo during Spirit Week and I liked it because it captures the excitement and fun of the event itself. One specific thing I really like about this picture is the movement I'm capturing, especially of the girl's hair. The reason I took this picture at this time is because this specific event gave me two people to capture together who are each doing a different thing. I was sitting on the ground here and it helped me capture their expressions and movements better my unique position allowed me to get a better picture.
I took this picture for a story called, "Shaping the Square." The goal of the photo was to show the new building towering over CityPlace in West Palm Beach. I chose to take this picture at this moment because I was on the roof of a parking garage and the view was perfect, overlooking the place the article was about. I thought that the composition of the photo did justice to the sky and the tops of old buildings that are interrupted by the big one.
This was a candid that I took for an article about the Nature Lab at my school. I took this picture on a whim because I wasn't planning on taking any pictures of the teacher/curator of the lab. I remember the exact moment when I took this picture because the teacher who was being interviewed had gone on a tangent about one of his pieces. I was very happy to capture this moment because it showed how passionate the teacher is about what he does.
This was a candid I took for a story about our school's annual holiday celebration for underprivileged kids in our county. During this event, I wanted to focus on capturing the children's joy and the moment they opened their gifts. A lot of these kids, according to the coordinators of the event, do not often get the opportunity to receive gifts for Christmas, so I wanted to get close to them and try to evoke emotion with these images because it was such a special moment for these children.
I also took this picture at the annual holiday celebration for underprivileged children at our school. My goal with this picture was to show how big of a role the students at Dreyfoos played in making the children at this event happy and how there is more than one point of view in this story.

I took this photo for a Photo of the Week assignment, but I was originally supposed to take a photo of a completely different event. When I went to the first event, it was hard for me to get any good photos, but I overheard music coming from a room in the same building. Instead of staying where I was and settling, I decided to investigate and see what kind of things I could capture. With this photo, I wanted to showcase something that many people did not know about, as this band or office area has not been covered yet.
