The reason why I included this example of my editing is because I think it's a good representation of my editing style. I like to take what someone has already written and work with that, rather than adding things in and diminishing their own writing voice. Instead of trying to take things out or keeping them in a place that doesn't do them any justice, I like to move them around to where they shine more in the piece. As an editor, I also think it's important to be very conversational and open with your suggestions and criticisms. Not only do I like to sound conversational in my comments online, but I also like to follow up in person and talk more in-depth about my thoughts face-to-face with my staffers and photographers. I think that this is a much more helpful approach rather than just commenting on a document because it stays with them longer, and it gives them and me an easier opportunity to ask questions and just talk more about the story and how they may need help.

The reason I used these comments and the infographic that was made as a result was to show my collaborative skills as an editor. During my time as an editor, I have learned the importance of doing research on a topic as well, so I am also more versed when it comes to editing, and I have ideas and things to add. Not only this, but I have learned the importance of having back-and-forth conversations with people whose pieces I am editing and talking to them about what they can do to improve their piece. I think these comments are a good example of my friendly approach to editing, and beyond these comments, I talked to this person more in person about how to localize it more to our school, which manifested in the final draft.Â
