Work
Before sophomore year, I acquired my first ever job, tutoring a kindergartener in math and reading. I spent about 3 hours a week with him, helping him read better and teaching him to add. Though I did not yet have experience working in a proper office setting, this job allowed me to gain skills, like patience and allowed me to be better at managing my time. I continued with this job during the summer prior to my junior year.
The summer before my senior year, I had the opportunity to intern at a company called LOCOAL, where I was able to use my engineering expertise to create a CAD (Computer-Automated Design) model and a physical scale model of a vertical-axis wind Turbine. I learned a lot about working in an office setting at this job and got to build my knowledge of engineering and its applications.
During my senior year, as part of the Practicum in STEM course, I acquired an internship with Elevate Systems. At this job, I will learn more about CAD and delve more into mechanical and aerospace engineering.
