This was my favorite project so far, I love 3D modeling a lot!
For this project we had to use Sketchup and Blender. Sketchup is a simple and fun 3D modeling software, used by professionals for things like architecture and 3D printing. It's famous for its push and pull technology, allowing you to make awesome and complex 3D shapes! \
Blender is an amazing 3D modeling software, allowing you to model and sculpt just about anything you can think of! Though, it takes a lot more skill to use than Sketchup.
Anyway, this page is quite a long one, so let's get right into it.
Sketchup
Starting off with 3D modeling, we first made 4 differently sized cubes placed next to each other. To make them, you simply had to use the Rectangle Tool (R is the shortcut, and they're very important) and the use the pull tool to pull them up to make a 3D cube! But, once you click on the rectangle, you had to type in the right measurements for the height, like if you wanted something to be 10 feet tall you would type in 10", and you don't even need to click anything. Then I repeated that process for the other 3 cubes.
Learning the shortcuts to each tool is super important, as if you just kept on clicking on the buttons to use each tool, it will be super inconvenient and tiring having to go back and forth. If you don't use shortcuts, it will take you forever to make something you're working on, so it's best to know your shortcuts while using softwares like Sketchup!
This is my Painted Simple House. After making my cube practice, I made my simple house, then painted it. We used the skills we learned from our simple cubes, and applied them to our houses. There were many super useful and important tools that I used for this model, like the Push or Pull tool, and the Offset tool, (Shortcut "F," the offset tool lets you offset a shape or line easily!) And many more great tools were used for this project. I call this house the Banana house, because when I was coloring it I realized the colors made it resemble a banana, so yeah! I also added a banana platter above the door to make it even better.
This is a close up view of my house! In this image you can see a lot of detail, such as the doorknob, the doorbell, some more depth into the windows and door, and even more details within the materials. Â This project was very fun to do, and I hope I am able to make more 3D models another time!
Blender
These are my houses, but in Blender! I exported the models of the house, the imported them into Blender, it's an easy process really if you don't mess anything up. I think they look so much cooler in Blender, because of the realistic lighting, and just overall adding more realism to the house. I love Blender a lot, you can really create some beautiful works and masterpieces with Blender!
This is my 10-second animation of my spinning house! Making it spin was simple, you only need to add 3 keyframes to make something like this.
