Our first basic assignment was to make a simple stack of cubes in SketchUp. This was really easy, but it was kinda fun to do.

Basic House
Our first actual project was to make a house.
Unpainted Version
First, we started by making a version of the house without any colors. To do this, you have to make two rectangles with measurements of 12',30' and 20',10' respectively. After you do this, press 'E' for erase and erase the dividing line, then press 'P' for push & pull and extrude the rectangles 10'.
After you finish this, you must make the roof, trim, and windows (all of which would take too long to explain, but its pretty easy anyways). Some people in my class also made doorknobs, mail-slots, etc. but I didn't have time to.
Painted Version
After the unpainted version was done, you have to paint all the faces of your house. This is pretty fun to do and gives you a ton of control over how it turns out. If you look to my painted house (pictured left), you can see I found a really nice flower wallpaper.
IMPORTANT: Be super careful painting. You cannot paint over other paint (you must remove it first), and you have to be sure to not paint the inside of the house. If you do either of these things, once you add it into blender, you'll have to re-export and re-import which takes ages.
10s Spinning Video
Finally, once it was all painted and exported into Blender, we were able to create a video of the house spinning. To do this, we used multiple key-frames. It's a little boring to watch but I think it's nice.
Remember to change the "Output" area to the correct output folder and change "End" to 300 frames so it renders properly.
Modern Art Sculpture
Sketchup Sculpture + Paint
I've missed a ton of days before this project so I didn't have a ton of time to create a unique sculpture. So instead I whipped up a simple hexagon-with-layers-and-six-poles thing. I painted it to get progressively brighter as it goes up, which looks pretty cool.
Blender Version
After I finished the sculpture, I imported it into blender just like I did with the house. It's pretty cool seeing it with properly rendered shadows and all that.
10s Spinning Video (Again)
Just like the house project, this also ends with a spinning project. The only main difference is that it ends with a top-down view. It doesn't look like it, but its actually pretty hard to keep everything within frame.
Mr. Hicks doesn't allow any cutoff, so you gotta kinda rangle it with multiple keyframes while trying to keep the motion smooth and while not zooming out too much.
